  • VERY HAPPY!
I ended up buying two units ... a 5220 for my downstairs heat pump and a 5020 for my upstairs (regular) system. There are quite a few configuration settings, but this gives you a lot of flexibility! I did the installation myself. Providing you properly read the installation guide, it's fairly easy. (Just be sure to switch off either your home's power or just the air handler [the unit inside your home] to kill the 24 volt transformer which supplies the thermostat's control power. This will avoid the risk of shorting anything when you disconnect and reconnect the wiring). Take a picture of the wiring of your existing thermostat and carefully study it to match up the connections with the Braeburn unit. The connections are quite standard, so you’ll quickly see what goes to where. Programming takes just a few minutes after familiarization. Two important settings to check in the “installer settings” menu are the system type and the temperature differentials. The system type is simply the type of system you have installed. The temperature differentials (1st stage, 2nd stage, etc.) govern how soon heat or cooling will kick on when the temperature rises or drops. The best setting is probably 2 degrees (the maximum allowable), to prevent your system from keep starting and stopping. The only downside in my case was that the Braeburn unit was smaller than my old thermostat, so I had to match paint color around the thermostat. ... show more

  • 2 degree differential does not work
I purchased 2 of these thermostats more than a year apart from one another. Both are set up for residential and 11 conventional operation. I installed one in a rental unit where utilities are included in the rent and the other in my home. The ability to set temperature limits in addition to the programming and lock out features are very useful. It appears that the 2 degree differential setting is actually a second 0.5 degree setting. I had a secondary temperature temperature measurement set up and the room temperature only increased 0.5 degree before the central AC turned on. This results in frequent on/off cycling of the unit the exact opposite of what I was trying to achieve. I tried both thermostats and the 2 degree differential simply does not work. I can't imagine how Braeburn hasn't caught this error in the firmware. If a 0.5 or 1 degree differential is all you will ever require, then this is a great thermostat. I knocked 2 stars off for this defect. ... show more

  • Nice Unit and Excellent Customer Service
I use a thermostat on the gas fireplace in our bonus room, which was dipping into the 50° range during the winter before we had the fireplace installed. The existing thermostat, an older Braeburn, was working erratically, so we needed a replacement. I decided to stick with Braeburn, thinking it would simplify the installation. But before I bought it I checked the installation directions on-line, and wasn’t sure how I would wire it. I sent an e-mail to their customer service, explained the situation, and asked for advice. Shortly after, I got a reply telling me exactly how to wire it. I ordered the unit, got it installed in a matter of minutes, and it worked correctly. We don’t need the lock-out function, but do use the programmable feature, which is very easy to set up. Overall, my first thermostat installation was quick and painless, and I’m very happy with this unit. Recommended. ... show more

  • Easy Breezy.
with all of the not so smart technology on the market it was tough to find the right replacements. have 4 units in my home and the braeburn 5000 was no longer available or not listed. the install was simple with no more than a screwdriver and batteries. the screen is larger than the 5000 model and settings are simple without having issues of no heat or air because of an energy restricting settings. it has a must circulation fan setting. not had any excess battery use up to now. overall it is perfect for any single h/a unit without the headache of wifi b.s. ... show more

  • Works as I need it to - so far, so good.
I bought this to use in a rental property. So far so good. It does have a lockout function, which is what I was looking for. You can lock out in one of two ways - total lockout, which doesn't allow for any temperature adjustment at all. Partial lockout, which allows for adjusting the temp within 2 degrees of what it's programmed for. I got killed last winter with the gas bill at my 2 flat - the tenants were cranking the heat up, I'm sure! This thermostat allows for slight adjustment when necessary. ... show more

  • Great locking thermostat
This was the perfect solution for my mother-in-law. She has dementia and would keep raising the temperature to 85-90 degrees! This model allows us to "lock" the thermostat so as to keep it at a comfortable setting. I would recommend this model to anyone who has kids who like to change the thermostat all the time. Saves money and headaches. ... show more

  • Exactly as expected.
Works perfectly! Prevents any changes from being made to the thermostat settings without the password. Great for those house guests who like to tamper with your settings.
