Call me silly but I’ve wanted one of these drying mills since I moved to the US from The Netherlands 22 years ago. They make me feel nostalgic, and of course, I love that the Brabantia is Dutch, but the quality is also great. ( I own a few of their drying racks and the brand is a staple back in The Netherlands). Anyway, this lift-o-matic is fantastic. It can hold so much laundry and everything dries super fast. The leaf green color is pretty. The cover is super easy to put on/remove and the clothes pin bag is a great size and extremely handy, like I never realized I needed a bag like this. The holder was easy to install for us when following directions. We used a sledgehammer and a scrap piece of wood in a grassy area with out clayish soil and it took a few minutes and is very sturdy. I don’t plan to remove it until it gets snowy here (New England) but I stored the cap in the pin bag for when I do. Do yourself a favor and buy your own clothespins though (i recommend the honey can do on Amazon wood ones, super sturdy!) the ones included are tiny and junky and a tiny quantity as well. ... show more

If I could give this more than 5 starts, I would. I have had my clothesline for about 3 weeks now. Putting the base in the ground wasn't too bad. I put a board on top of the base and used a 10 lb sledge to drive it in, checking regularly to ensure I was keeping it straight. Very important to keep it straight. Once it was in the ground and the pole was in place, I am careful to load the lines up evenly to keep the weight distributed. And I put the heaviest laundry closest to the pole. Putting the pole into the base is easy, all of it is lightweight but sturdy at the same time. When the pole is not in place, the cover for the base works wonderfully. It stays in place and keeps rain and debris out of the base, as designed. I always put the cover on the pole and lines and then remove the pole to my garage when it is not in use. I love the easy of loading this unit up with wet laundry. It spins very easily and I just stand in one spot with my basket while putting the laundry up. The height adjustment is a little misleading since the lines get tighter the higher you go. I want my lines tight so I go as high as I can. The unit spins itself as well when it is breezy. I'm not worried about that though since it seems to not damage the pole in any way. I have no idea about how it will hold up over time but I expect that it will be just fine since I do store it inside. ... show more

We really like this solar dryer! It has been years since we hung clothes outdoors, but since each load of clothes we send through our electric dryer adds an estimated five pounds of greenhouse gases into the air ("Serve God Save the Planet" by J. Matthew Sleeth, M.D.), we thought we'd give the Brabantia dryer a shot. Wow! The hardest part was hammering the holder into our clay soil. Deduct a star for that. We put a piece of 2x6 lumber on top of the holder and pounded on that instead of hitting the holder directly It took about 30 minutes and some help from our water hose, but it is solid now. (I might order in a "ground screw" next time. That is much easier to put into the ground--and remove if you want to change locations.) Then all you do is stand the clothes line into the holder and push up on the the part that holds the lines (just like raising an umbrella). To lower it, push the holding clip and down it comes. It has a weather-resistant, zippered cover to keep the dust and bird droppings off the lines, so it's always ready to go. We can use it year-round here in South Texas, but for those with real winters, there's a loop at the top that allows you to hang it in a shed or garage. Very nicely designed. One caveat: while the pole slides up and down the polished pole easily, I did cut my hand the first time out by pushing on the end of one of the arms where it fits against the center pole. Those metal edges are sharp as razors. It's not a problem now that I know about that, and I would heartily recommend this solar dryer to others who are tired of high electric bills and clothing that smells of heated rubber. We dry our king-size bed sheets on this hanger as well after my wife figured out the best way: instead of hanging it around the outside perimeter, she folded each sheet long-wise, started 3 lines in (inside a single section) and pinned as much as she could, then simply moved to the outside line and finished pinning the sheet there, with room left over. In fact, we were able to dry top and bottom sheets, as well as four pillow cases, some T-shirts and socks and underwear--and still had room for more. It's neat the way the wind can turn the whole thing, too, giving each piece maximum exposure to the sun and wind. I definitely would recommend this dryer to others. ... show more
