Like any woodworker, I spend quite a bit of time making jigs and tools. When it comes to a featherboard, however, I'm not sure you'd save much money on cutting your own since you still need to add the hardware for securing it. This featherboard tightens securely into the miter track on my table saw plus it also has a replaceable feather edge so it should last a good long time. My first go with this device was to resaw a piece of redwood lumber which I then further milled in a thickness planer. I'm compelled to buy another FP1 so I can clamp one to the fence of my table saw as needed. Finally, there's also something really satisfying about tightening down those gigantic thumbwheels! ... show more

    • This is the ONLY featherboard you should buy!
Yes it's easy to set up. Yes it's easy to move, configure, and adjust. But the reason you need this device is the built-in (and very very effective) anti-kickback design of the foam "fingers." Make sure you have it installed in the correct direction of feed - the instructions will show, then use your hands to try to push the work piece backwards. The foam compresses and locks, making kick back impossible, or with greatly reduced speed/energy. You ain't lived until a table saw shots a spear of oak back into your pelvis/ribs or drywall. Absolutely the best feather board I have ever used. Tightens up easily, and provides just the perfect amount of pressure to keep the workpiece tight against the fence. Truly an awesome tool. Try one, you will not be disappointed.

I was just gonna run down the big box store and get me one with the plasticy fingers, but wanted to give this product a try. It absolutely works! Because of the material they used for the fingers, it absorbs some vibration and chatter specially if your trying to mill wide boards. It's also pretty tall so it pushes the stock snug up against the fence. I use mine alot, and I notice that the fingers are starting to blister. Not to the point that its gonna fail any time soon but it's there. Irregardless, I'm pretty happy with this purchase. I'd buy one again when this one fails. ... show more
