  • 2008 Harley Davidson Sportster 1200 Install!
Color: Silver
Quality product! Sound is awesome for a $60 system, at 40mph and lower its great. It's plenty loud enough, but as you approach 60 mph and up truth is no stereo is going to sound like a home audiophile system. Bottom line is 'buy it'! Customer service is first rate, they are great! Also, I read some complaints about bass. When I first connected the speakers they too sounded a bit flat. I clicked onto my Poweramp music player and set it to large concert hall and max bass and presto... truly impressive rich sound! My install - I mounted the speakers on the handlebars just inside the windshield. Then, ran all the wires and the amp into a small, front fork mounted, 'tool bag' type pouch. The main issue is the red hot wire. I must have watched a dozen youtube videos on this subject. I usually ride with my high beam on. I know its obnoxious, but down here in Florida anything you can do to stay visible is a life saver. I unscrewed the chrome cover that holds the daymaker headlight in place. Sadly, Harley does not provide an auxiliary wire in the headlight wiring harness of Sportster's. At least not in mine. There are three wires entering the headlight assembly from a hole in the back. Black wire is ground, white wire is High Beam, yellow wire is Low Beam. I used a plastic splice connector from Home Depot to connect the red Boss power wire to the white High Beam wire. (AMP Splice Tap Connectors 10 pack). The hole in the back of the headlight assembly where Harley runs the headlight wires - Harley runs the wire harness though the hole with a rubber bushing that protects the wires and keeps water from getting in. I tried to slice the rubber bushing so that I could add the Boss red hotwire but it was cramped quarters and I couldnt get in there without taking the chance of cutting the headlight wires also. You may be able to do it, I couldn't. I ran the red power wire through the hole and at the point where it touched the metal headlight housing I covered the wire with an extra couple of layers of electrical tape to protect it from the housing wearing through the insulation and shorting the amp. Then, pushed the rubber bushing back into the hole. It wasn't a perfect fit, there was a slight gap because of the red wire I installed. It also wasn't a terrible fit - and then I put the headlight and headlight retainer back into place. After continual testing at every stage, and when I was sure all worked as it should, I used a dab of black silicone caulk and filled in the gap between the rubber bushing and the outside of the headlight assembly. This also helped hold the red power wire in place and reduce any chance of shorting against the headlight casing. I ran the ground wire outside the headlight housing for a few inches to a windshield mounting bolt and tightened it down. (I didn't want the ground wire taking up space going through the headlight hole, so I split the red power wire and the ground wire before the power wire entered the headlight housing hole. You may find it works just fine running both wires through, especially after using caulk to close up the hole where the wires enter.) Finally, I used zip ties to connect the volume button to the left side windshield mount, very close to where my hand naturally fits onto the handlebar grip. I believe you want the volume control where your left hand can safely get to it without too much reaching. Final result is my Boss audio system works only when the high beam is on. And when the bike is turned off there is no chance of the amp staying on and draining the battery. Also, my install required no drilling, no running wires under gas tanks and seats, and no toggle switch. I love having music now!!! Safe riding! ... show more

  • Works well
Color: Black
They are loud little speakers. 80 on the highway and I can hear them too well but riding around on back roads, they're just fine. I think some of the things that were mentioned negatively in other reviews were handled. It came with strips of rubber so that the brackets were clamped tight enough onto the handlebars and the volume knob clicks to turn them off so there's no need for a toggle switch. Pretty easy install. For the price I'm satisfied ... show more

  • Easy to install, good sound
Color: Silver
Just installed mine, and so far good sound. I connected directly to the battery as described in the instructions....... volume/power control works good. Using a zip tie for it does seem cheap, but zip ties are a dime a dozen....... regardless they work good for the price and so far at 45 mph they still sound good,( I have a windshield), can even hear the music while wearing a full face helmet. ... show more

  • Eh, Not Worth It *EDIT* Meh...Sure.
Color: Black
I always wait for a bit before I write a review because I want time to use it. It allows me to be real and fair. This, for the price, seems pretty fantastic. From a looks standpoint, it fits the bill. I have a black motorcycle this is attached to, so the matte black option makes it blend right in. Appearance, it's a 5*. Now, the reason this gets only 2 stars from me is for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, I purchased this about 2 months ago, and already, one of the speakers is blown. I always treat new speakers the same way; I run them a variety of ways to break them in. Well, I guess I did literally break it in. I would have it on with the volume way down low and up high and ranges in between, and about a week or two ago, the right speaker is blown. So, from a quality standpoint, that knocks it down immediately. As stated in other reviews, the sound quality is ok at best. Volume, this thing can get pretty loud. However, it doesn't have a great range of sound, from bass and treble. It just gets loud. Now, you can definitely hear it at highway speeds with a full face helmet. Half shells, brain buckets, whatever you want to call it, you definitely hear, until the wind gets to be a bit much. But what stands out is the lack of quality sound. Installation wise, it really isn't terrible, but it definitely isn't easy. It contains what is needed, but it is bare minimum. I added an additional kill switch so it will cut off with the engine and not stay on all the time. That's more of an annoyance, especially with how motorcycle batteries work. So with all that said, I wouldn't recommend it. It's a cheap price for sure, so I guess if you want an easy starter kit, go for it. However, I feel like I'm already forced to fix/upgrade, so this $60 some odd could've went for something better. EDIT**** I updated it to three stars. I wouldn't say it blows you away by any means. I still don't like that the speaker blew within the first few weeks of having, and I didn't even have it on full volume. That said, it holds up well in rain, and replacing the speaker with an at least decent quality 3" speaker makes it decent. I wouldn't say it's the best ever, but for the price, ease of installation and compatibility, and look, sure. Go for it if this is your budget. ... show more

  • Awesome sound

Attached to our Honda shadow and it works fantastic. The sound was clear, loud and the equipment was all there to attach to the handles. They move only when you physically turn them yourself. Well worth it!

  • The finish wears off fast.
Color: Silver
The finish deteriorated after about one year, I've had the 2 in the red side by side for 2 years. The 3rd one is in another and are only a year old. Never thought much about it, just thought for the price, they were just cheap quality. My son brought his out over Thanksgiving and I noticed his too was deteriorating. Sound good, just don't look good. 2 year's ago they were 85 dollars, now they're 65. ... show more
