  • Sounds so much better than the Solo 5 or even their Revolve+ speakers
Pros: -Sound Quality is absolutely excellent. Bose added in a tweeter in the center of the bar, so highs are bright. This also contains 4 full-range speakers which are larger than the old Solo 5 design and have a higher quality sound. This bar can go incredibly loud and sounds clean and detailed all the way. Having 4 speakers gives a fullness and surround quality that left me disappointed when listening to my older Solo 5 model afterwards. -Build Quality is excellent which is to be expected from Bose. -HDMI Arc performs well (i.e. turns on the bar when it's supposed to, not a noticeable delay other than when powering on) Cons: -The only ability to tune the sound is through the app which has to be connected to Wifi. This may not sound like a big deal, but I originally bought this for use in my RV which means that I'm stuck with the defaults. The Bose TV speaker may be a better option for RVs, but I'd rather the 300 work as it has the two additional speakers on each end with some exposure on the front. -Only a small remote available with no audio tuning options -The bass has great sound quality, but low frequencies drop off early. The bass module fixes this I'm sure, but at what cost. I didn't buy this for Alexa, so I keep the spy features turned off by not configuring them. ... show more

  • Quick Setup & Nice Clear Sound
I wanted to replace an old Sony surround sound system with a single sound bar and without the need of a subwoofer setting on the floor as we are trying to minimize. I don’t need the house to rattle but I do want to hear some nice low frequency effects. The Bose is exactly what I wanted. The low end is there where most other sound bars seem to lack low end. The setup was very quick and easy and after a firmware update was ready to go. The phone app is nice and even at half volume is already louder than my old Sony system was maxed out. There is a dialogue feature in the app to help voices stand out when watching dialogue driven shows. We also watch a lot of British mysteries and it’s easier to hear heavier accents clearly. It’s also nice that should I decide one day that I felt I needed a subwoofer the system is expandable. It’s Alexa enabled which is nice for asking quick questions. The only “con” I have noticed is that if I pause or sit on my Roku menu for over 20 minutes the bar does tend to fall asleep and I have to hit the power button again on the remote to wake it up. Not a big deal but it doesn’t seem to detect that there is still a signal coming from the optical cable as we have an older TV that doesn’t have HDMI Arc which I have heard doesn’t have this issue. Overall though I am very happy with the Bose Sound Bar 300. ... show more

  • Turn on "DIALOGUE MODE" for movies and shows
I've waited a bit to review this soubdbar, until I used it and have learned more about how it works. First let me start by saying you don't have to have the app to use it, but most features are not accessible unless you do. If you don't want a tech savvy sound bar this is not for you. Although it does come with its own simple remote control. ALL THINGS ARE SETUP AND CONFIGURED IN THE APP. The set up is relatively easy after you download the app. Then configure your smart TV and cable or satellite box, the app leads you through this process. My current entertainment equipment: Satellite- Orby TV Antenna- Orby TV and Tivo Television- LG smart TV Internet- satellite My first impression of the sound quality for voices in movies or shows was not good, until I found the setting called " Dialogue Mode" in the app and turned it on. Now voices are clear! YOU WILL WANT TO DO THIS. I used and optical cable from Bose to the TV. This allows the soubdbar to detect when audio is present from the TV, this triggers the soubdbar on and it becomes the audio instead of the TV speakers. I configured it with my LG smart TV, I like this so you can use the TV remote, the Bose remote or Alexa voice control to change the volume of the Bose. I then configured it with my Orby TV satellite box, which is recognized and auto populated by the Bose app, but it has a pop up that states Orby TV does not allow, so this feature of using hands free voice control through Alexa to change channels doesn't work. This sucks since I wasn't able to get rid of remote control. It does NOT work with Tivo, so another remote control has to stay. Alexa voice control can only control the volume and change the TV input, and NOT change channels as I had hoped due to the non compatibility of my equipment. We live in a rural area so traditional tv services do not exist. These functions would most likely work for folks who are located closer to town with more traditional cable and satellite options. This has voice control built in, you can use Amazon Alexa or Google home to change channels the volume and input. I have a few Alexa devices in my home, the one on the Bose soundbar has super hearing, it hears me when I am at the other end of the house, (1800sq ft ranch style), and instead of the one located in the room responding, the Bose responds. I haven't yet figured out how to turn down the listening sensitivity, or if this is even an option, so I have manually turned Alexa off on the soubdbar via a button located on the top, which turns on annoying red light letting you know it's off. I can somewhat understand the listening super sensitivity, in case your blasting away in a movie or music it will pick out your voice amongst the noise. The notification lighting on the Bose, has a yellow fading pulse action when there is a notification from Amazon/Alexa. The only way to dismiss it is to ask Alexa what the notification is. The light isn't very bright but can be distracting while watching the TV in darkness or dim light. (See video) This same light multi functions as the volume up/down recognition and possibly some other things I can't remember right now. In the app you can adjust, channel bass and treble, for the soubdbar and any other Bose compatible accessory speakers. For instance, after I received the soubdbar, I ordered a Bose 500 subwoofer, and in the future I will be ordering the wireless Bose surround speakers. I synced the subwoofer and now in the app I can adjust its sound and turn it off and on. Another feature it has in the app, something called PowerSync, this allows you to sync and group other compatible bluetooth speakers in your home, this way you can rock the house down! This is packed with features, but it takes time and patience to get everything set up, working together and sounding how you want it. I'm still learning more features it has as time goes by. The Bose sound quality is there, zero distortion at any volume level as expected. Also in the app is a "Common Questions" tab which will take you online for "How To, Trouble Shooting, Downloads, Repair, Accessories and Community" section. Also a "Technical Spec" tab which displays wifi, internet name serial number and such. I give the sound quality and features a solid 5 stars, and for the notifications light 2 stars based purely on the distracting location. Thank you! ... show more

  • Fills a large room, no subwoofer needed
I ordered direct from Bose & saved $30 with my education discount. This is my first soundbar, reluctantly as I have an older but very functional and loud 5.1 system. I'm older now and just don't need the space it takes up nor earth-shaking bass. This new 300 is like a combination of the older 500 and 700 models in size and sound. It's loud, it's clear, and after adjusting the bass, treble, and mid sounds on the app - it's a very well balanced sound great for TV, movies, and Music. I'm impressed. Alexa works great. And the Bose Music App well it's awesome. I do have the 300 Home speaker (which is also ridiculously loud and easy to use) so this prompted me to stay in-brand as I can connect the speakers with the app. My favorite part of the app is I can control the volumes anywhere in the house - so I when I go to bed and my wife is still up and the tv is too loud, I lower it myself. I set up with HDMI Arc on my LQ 75in TV - it took 2 tries but it works. One LG remote controls the tv, soundbar, and AppleTV. I don't have cable TV but you need that in order to use the new Voice4Video Bose built-in. Alexa won't control my AppleTV nor TV like 'change input'. It's really meant for changing channels on a cable box. Very pleased. I can't imagine the Sonos Beam which this is meant to compete with, sounds as good. ... show more
