    • A solid, heavy duty grinder
I have been wanting an angle grinder for some time and jumped at the chance when I saw that this was a Bosche. The tool has a good solid weight to it, but well balanced. The small amount of assembly was simple to follow. It does not come with any kind of wheels so I headed out to get a variety because I couldn’t wait to try this out. It has strong power and is about as loud as I thought it would be. Changing the blades was quick and easy. I used a metal cutting blade to cut some rebar, small and large. Around my pool I have a concrete composite overlay that’s supposed to look like stones laid down, but it looks like exactly what it is – some concrete material pressed down with molded templates. Some were pressed down so much that it oozed concrete up around the edges. It’s fine walking around on the decking, until you step on one of these raised ridges. I used a concrete grinding wheel to smooth some of these edges down. This shaved those concrete ridges like they were butter – a little too much on my first one and I now have a crescent shaped divot in that spot). I used a paint rust remover disk to remove some rust off my grill surface and again, this grinder was easy to hold and maneuver over the surface. I would definitely recommend this product to others, although I do wish it had come a cutting disk and a grinding disk to start with. The cost of those is negligible. ... show more

    • Useful tool
Used it to grind down a flat top grill that rusted. Looked brand new when I was done. Couple things to remember is it's 13 amp, make sure you are using an extension cord rated for it. A lot of breakers are only 15 amps so don't be surprised if you trip a breaker if someone in the house turns something on that's part of the circuit. My only complaint and why I rated this 4 star is because the power switch is pretty high up on it. I would prefer it had the safety power grip style. A lot of work places won't let you use this grinder because it doesn't meet certain requirements. My favorite part is it includes a safety plate that will protect you from the blade if it shatters. I do wish they gave you blade with it, $160 and no blade feels kind of cheap to me. I would recommend this for home use only. ... show more

    • Stout tool built for serious cutting and grinding
I've seen several other adjectives tossed around for this tool, but maybe I'm the first one to use "beast"? I used this with a fresh 5 inch cutoff wheel and it went through a moderately thick bicycle seat post like it was barely there. (I was helping a friend, not taking out anger on a random bicycle.) Overall in use, the tool feels well balanced and easy to control - a very good thing considering how much power it brings to the table. The guard is a little finicky to figure out initially but works fine once you get the hang of it. Just from a practical perspective, I do wish the power switch were lower on the body of the tool so that it could be more quickly/easily used. Apparently that may be a requirement in some workplaces, so pay attention if you're buying your own tools for work. But thankfully, there seems to be a decent amount of technology built in to prevent binding and kickback. I fortunately haven't experienced it yet, but with a grinder this powerful it is a comfort to have. The manual is comprehensive and easy to understand - it's what told me about the anti kickback tech! Others have touched on this, but do pay attention to the extension cord you use. If you're unfamiliar with AWG and what it means, there's a handy chart in the manual that will set you straight (and unlike most powered hand tools, at 13 amps you actually do need to pay attention to your cord's ampacity). I have to be objective and say that most homeowners like me probably don't need an angle grinder this powerful, unless your hobby is metalworking. But, absent the potential workplace issue with the switch location, this is a mighty tool that should stand up to anything you throw at it, and I would recommend it to professionals. Sure would be nice if Bosch would throw in a starter cutting wheel for the money, but that's not enough to knock a star off for. ... show more

    • How Can a Bosch Get Less Than Five Stars
This is the best tool I have ever used. All you need is know is it's a Bosch and it's just plain quality engineering and gets the job done. I know this is going to last for years and years. I only fear someone taking it from me.

BOSCH GWS14-50 5 In. Angle Grinder | Compact, Powerful 13-Amp Motor with Slide Switch - High Performance for Grinding and Cutting. I currently have a corded DeWalt D28110 4 1/2 grinder and the Bosch is a completely different animal. The Bosch is much longer and heavier (not unweildy) and of course takes bigger 5" wheels. This also has some additional safety features that my DeWalt does not have. It detects if the wheel gets in a bind and adjusts, switches off the motor to prevent kickback and it also has a restart feature for power loss. If you experience a power loss in use (eg. extension cord comes undone), when you plug the power source back in, the grinder will not start until you have turned the power switch from off to on.
