Prior to Covid I used to travel constantly for business, and had to rely on plastic plants and no pets as a way of life. I'm starting to get back into the travel thing, more for different places to work remote, and had bought some real, live house plants that suddenly were at risk of a slow death from lack of watering. Searching Amazon for an answer, I discovered these nifty little Blumatic watering stakes and decided to give it a try. Set up was easy - soak the little stakes, add some water, stick them in the pot, put the hoses into a little container of water, and head out of town. Three weeks later, we returned home to plants that were healthy, soil that was moist but not wet, and a nearly empty bowl of water for the little hoses. Now, instead of watering the plants, I just replenish the bowl of water. The plants are thriving, I have real, live plants in my home, and I have no guilt when I go away for a while that I've done in yet another plant. These are so simple, even I figured out how to use them - soak, fill, stick, hose, bowl, water, keep bowl full of water, enjoy live plants. Easily recommended. ... show more

I was out of town for about two and a half weeks and I needed something to keep my indoor plants watered while I was away. I ended up ordering the original or junior Blumat for some 6-8” pots I had and the XL version for my bigger pots, which are like 10-12.” They were easy to set up and none of mine were broken upon delivery or when I shoved them into the soil. I followed the instructions to presoak them for a while and filled them up with water as shown. I rigged the smaller ones up to a gallon jug and put press and seal plastic wrap over the top. For the larger plants, I filled a five-gallon mop bucket about 3/4 full and wrapped the top of it in press and seal. They seemed to have worked fairly well. The little pots were overwatered. The bigger pots were completely out of water but the soil wasn’t too dry so it must’ve not happened super quickly. I’ll continue to work on another water reservoir with perhaps less evaporative surface for the next time I take an extended absence, and I’m going to try to use a completely full five gallon container of some sort. Like almost everything I buy anymore, I feel like these were kind of expensive, but ultimately they did the job without a lot of fuss. ... show more

These are awesome! Instead of remembering to water your plants and then trying to figure out exactly how much and how often (as well as how to do it so that the water doesn’t all just run straight through), with this all you have to do is just keep the jar/water container full, and the dripped will take care of the rest. The soil is consistently moist all around the plant (not just concentrated in one place) and it has just the right amount— none runs through to the drip pan, but there are no dry spots either. Note: I’m using on a peace lily which likes to have consistently moist soil. If you have a variety of plant that prefers to dry out in between waterings, then this might not be ideal for those. ... show more

After receiving these, I was very excited for the set up where I would be watering the reservoir(s) and individual plants could suck up as much water as desired. So, I read the questions and answers section and checked the reviews for helpful tips and read the instructions and got to work. I soaked these for way longer than recommended—overnight—just to be sure they were thoroughly soaked. I made sure the little tubes were primed with water before I got all bubbles out of the ceramic piece and the lid with the tube and I put the lid on while the whole thing was under water, bubble-free, primed. Then I took a large chopping knife and stabbed straight down into the soil and made myself a little cone-shaped hole right next to my most water-demanding geranium, and made sure the clay part was completely under the soil, and there was a full half-gallon jar of water on the shelf above the plant with the little tube at the very bottom of the jar, AND, nothing happened. The plant was not watered, or even moistened a little bit, and the end of the tube was under the water the whole time, and the half-gallon jar of water that the end of the tubing was in was on a shelf above the plant, so it should have gotten more water. I did everything else as was advised by people who have had success with these, and the advice of the instructions, aaaand, nothing. These do nothing as far as I can tell with my experience with them. They have mass and take up space and the water in the reservoir just slowly evaporates as your plant dries out and you have to continue hand watering each plant. These seem like a great idea and I’m going to try again to make them work but so far, they have done nothing but eat up my money and have mass and occupy space, they are matter after all. And so far they do not waters plants. Will provide an update if I get these things to work, but for now, I’m going to regret not returning them sooner. ... show more

These seem to work well at first, but once the roots engulf them, I notice my pots start drying out. I have also had to take out and resoak and prime to make sure water is in cap. My final thought is maybe these are good earlier in or in plants that aren’t aggressive feeders. They have a place but they let my pots get too dry in flower, would continue to use in house plants or early in veg ... show more
