  • Easy entertaining read
I recently became a fan of Steve Aoki after seeing him at a festival and watching "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead" on Netflix after seeing him live. I was really inspired by the Netflix documentary so I figured why not get the book so I can get a better understanding of this guy who came from a wealthy family but became successful on his own through hard work and perseverance. Blue was really relatable to me as I was also another Asian American growing up in a predominately white neighborhood having to go through racial discrimination, being bullied and learning to fight back at a young age. There were also other themes in the book that was relatable to me on many personal levels but I think overall, anyone with an interest in an entertaining life story would enjoy this book. ... show more

  • Steve Aoki is interesting
Steve Aoki is one of the most interesting people I have ever heard of. His documentary on Netflix left me in awe on how hard he works for himself and others. He makes goals and crushes them, read this book if you want to be inspired!

  • Good for Hardcore Fans, Maybe Not Casual Fans
I received this book through Amazon Vine in exchange for an honest review. I wanted to like this book, but id didn't have as much depth as I expected. The book is largely about the loss of Aoki's father and how his father shaped his childhood and that loss shaped his adulthood. I liked that there were 'drops' between chapters that were often airy and poetic but started becoming more concrete and related to the rest of the book as they want on. However, the pacing of this book was odd and slow. There's very little actual dialogue and a lot of jumping around. There's also references to certain events and songs, like Aoki expects people who read this book to already know those things. He also spends time praising Michael Jackson and Kanye West, which felt like a weird take for 2019. He spends a few pages talking about the loss of other famous artists like Avicii and his descent into drinking, but even then seems to gloss over the details. Largely I suppose I'm not the demographic for this book, but it wasn't what I expected. ... show more

  • A Very Intriguing Story!
I have only perused this Book but, I have kind of cheated because, I actually watched a Movie that was made about this guy so, I already knew quite a bit about his Life and simply looked forward to seeing more of it in Print. Even if you know nothing about the Music, or the Sounds he is known for, or don’t like it at all (I’m pretty much in the latter Column, I’m sorry to say), if you open your mind and love to see people do well and Succeed in life then, I can’t suggest this mans Story enough. He built his world and the Style of “Music” from scratch and it’s a Heart bolstering and Motivational Story to me and even though I don’t personally enjoy listening to it, I found myself Happy to watch how he can make 10’s or 100’s of thousands of people, in a single Concert, be filled with Joy; it’s Amazing! In fact, even if you don’t like Sweets very much, you just might be craving a piece of Cake by the time you’re done reading it. Haha! You need to read it to understand that. I will definitely refer this Book and I hope you find it as Impressive as I have! ... show more
