Korean for K-Pop Fans is a well-organized, appealing, and (most importantly) effective introduction to the Korean language. It has all the essential components of language-teaching design, as applied to Hangul: brief history and structure of the written language, phonemes, parts of speech, phrasing, verb tenses and conjugation, substantive and descriptive structures, and linguistic adaptations (hybrid forms and borrowings). The brilliant part is the context-based design, an approach well known in language teaching for student motivation and engagement, and for enabling them to retain what they learn. The thread of K-Pop and the Korean music world is creative and compelling. Additionally, the electronic version has available sound files with corresponding scripts. The visual layout is really well done. And I like the way they've brought together components that you often need to pull together from different textbooks. This is the first book that I've come across that actually breaks everything down. I've been trying to learn for almost a year and was kind of giving up because not every book or app has everything in one place and explained so simply. This book has everything! You'll learn from the ground up. It teaches letters, numbers, grammar and pronunciation, dates and time, formal and informal, and so much more. One of my favorite things is that it explains word and sentence structure. I was also struggling a little with formal and informal speaking, but with it broken down it is so much easier to understand. I highly recommend this book. This book offers a thorough grounding of the Korean language, both Hangul (the alphabet) and grammar, from simple to intermediate. I've been studying Korean for 6 years, and I have perused quite a few study materials. I thought the included vocabulary was very practical. I also liked the clear explanations of grammar and usage (such as 좋아요/좋아해요. One downside is that I found the romanizations to be distracting. Although I do understand why books include romanizations, I think students are better off not relying on them; hard to do when they are in-line like this. I loved this super cute way of learning Korean with Hallyu inside. I have been watching KDrama's since 2010 and listing to K-pop a few years after that. This is a great way to get familiarized with the language besides binge watching and singing. Right off the back you have the Alphabet and it was a great refresher for me. You do learn the sentence structure and the common words right away. What I really love is that you learn about not common words so it helps to answer that question and in it that regard it is quite thorough. This gets you talking rather quickly and understanding what you are saying as well. I love the resources to keep you learning as you practice. This is a great book for beginners. Doesn’t matter if you’re a K-pop fan or just want to learn the language for fun. It’s an easy read and explains the difference in ways words and sentences are said with explanations. It’s easy to follow. The book has a great layout for learning. I love how many resources they give at the end of the book. And the fact they go over the Korean keyboard. Thats something I haven’t seen in these books before.
