I would recommend you clean the surface thoroughly. Clean and wipe, spray with cleaner and use a squeegee. Spray back of material and post to window. Use squeegee to eliminate air bubbles. Use a VERY sharp blade to trim the edges for best possible look. The material is very thick, if your blade is dull or not sharp, it will stretch the rubbery material instead of cut and can cause issues. Good news for me, this was a temporary solution to give is privacy through the sidelights until we can replace the entire front door eventually. So it looks rough because I gave it a shot. This was exactly what I was looking for. Something that would let the light through yet provide privacy. I didn't want to install blinds because they are expensive and if they are closed for privacy then the light doesn't get through. These were easy to install, they adhere well, and are very private. I’ll admit that this was a learning experience & I ended up wasting way too much but thankfully, I had just enough to complete my project. I’ve added a pic to show the beginning of it & after taking almost all day to finish just 4 of the 6 window panes, I am taking a well deserved break. Keep in mind that I am not good at figuring these kinda projects out easily where it would probably take the average person half the amount of time. Tips on application: I read a review from another that said she forgot to remove the clear backing before applying & I’ll be danged if I didn’t catch myself doing the same thing! So BE SURE TO REMEMBER THAT FIRST! lol I followed the manufacturer’s instructions & it worked beautifully. I kept a bowl of warm soapy water beside me & after peeling the back off, I used a sponge to apply a little of the soapy water. Don’t put too much on because it’ll drive you nuts trying to squeegee it all out. Naturally, I learned that the hard way. It’s no deal breaker tho. You can just wipe it off & start again. As for the squeegee that I just mentioned, I forgot to order one & ended up using my Cricut scraper & it worked fine. Even a credit card would work. Reflecting on what I’ve accomplished so far, I feel like the rest will go much faster & I’ll then move on to my next window project using the same stuff. The material is of high quality & an excellent value for the money. Overall, I would highly recommended! As for all of the negative reviews, I can speak from experience now & say that they evidently didn’t follow the directions. NOTE: I actually lost the instructions that came with it so I went back to the product page here & followed those instructions. I’m assuming they are the same. Best wishes on your project. WOW! I'm obsessed with this stuff. It's gorgeous, so easy to apply by myself, and the result is phenomenal! A few things... Measure your windows BEFORE you buy. I have around a 21" x 21" hexagon window, so the 17.5" width didn't make the cut (I didn't care, I just added a 3" sliver of mismatched pattern. The window is in a closet, 2nd flr). Make sure to use an expo marker, sharp scissors, good lighting, and a template. DO NOT peel off the back until you're ready to apply. You can trace the template with an expo marker without damaging the pattern. I used my template from a piece of cardstock spam mail (lucky for me it was an inch too wide -- easy to modify) for my front door. My hexagon I had to use paper and I had to be careful tracing the template. Tape helps to keep templates from sliding. The expo marker helps because if you make a mistake, then you can wipe it off with mild pressure/friction and try again. The backing was fairly easy to get off at the start of the roll, but harder towards the end the roll and I have nails to easily pry that stuff off. A little more water helps with sticking and getting rid of those air bubbles. No amount of squegee-ing is going to get rid of the air bubbles without enough water. Trust me. I used my hand to squeegee as I felt I had less risk of damaging the pattern and I applied this alone. After I got the air bubbles out, I went around the edges with a dry paper towel and wiped up excess water. That helped it stick better. Recommended you have a second pair of hands. It's not necessary, but it would have been nice to hand someone the wet/dry paper towels. I also matched each window with the same pattern (because I'm a perfectionist). If you're nit picky like me, then you can have 3 different pairs with the 17.5" x 84" size. I'm sure moving the template around may be able to get you 2 more patterns but I'm not taking the time to double-check that. I put an outside picture in there with the lights on when the sun was going down to show how much the frosted aspect blurs and provides privacy (while looking downright gorgeous). ... show more

    • Challenging to put up without bubbles/wrinkles

It sticks just ok. I found this to be quite challenging to put up without getting wrinkles or bubbles. Fortunately you can reposition and reapply, but after a while I gave up and accepted imperfection. It's not a very strong cling, but so far is staying in place.
