  • It has been good to me
I'm a hobbyist welder and picked this up because of the price, reviews, and the video on the Tool Teardowns YouTube channel that showed the innards to be surprisingly well-made for the low price. I've used it for cutting and grinding with flap disks and plain grinding wheels. I have been happy with the performance so far. Pros: Price Power (I haven't stalled it out yet) Locking power switch (this is a huge deal) Guard is easy to adjust Handle has 3 positions - I've only used one of them but the option is there and it's a quick change Cons: The manual says you need a type 27 disk which is cupped to put the rest of the disk farther away from the axis of the handle of the tool, but from my experience that is not necessary. Just keep your body out of the plane of rotation and you will be fine if a cutoff wheel explodes. I'll update this review if anything changes for the worse. ... show more

  • Great value angle grinder
I've been using this angle grinder for coping baseboard, and it's been a very handy tool to have. With the use of a flap disc, I am able to sand away wood quickly and precisely. The angle grinder works like a charm, and I find it easy to handle. Unlike the previous one I bought from Porter Cable, this angle grinder hasn't overheated and failed after five minutes of use. I suspect this angle grinder has a lot more life left, and it's been a great value for the money so far. ... show more

  • Good tool, one fault
I've used this extensively. It does a good job, it's a go-getter. For the price it is great. The one important defect is the operating switch. At first it was fine, but now that it is a bit worn it is a nuisance because I have to hold the switch on which is awkward, it readily jumps out of the groove that is supposed to hold the power on. ... show more

  • It can be a saw too
Heavy but worthy. The number one PRO for me is how easy it is to turn it off with my thumb. I need two hands to turn it on because it is heavy for me and although I was on the market for a saw I got this grinder by mistake and I am keeping it. I purchased the DeWalt type 1 .045 disk and used it as a cutter, they warned about that but beign cautious helps. By George!! How it worked, I added two pictures the uncut piece and on the second the finished work, the plate is an 8/ of an inche thick. There was a whole lot of sparks but I was able to accomplish my task. I also used it as it's purposed for, a grinder, I realized I needed one!! I have issues with the weight but this tool is soooooo good I am overlooking that. I still need a saw but if in a jam my BD will pull me out. It is not expensive it is more value for the money. ... show more

  • Love it
Sorry for late review. I purchased this couple years ago and it still works well. It's powerful, and not heavy on the hand. whatever you're cutting, it's done in no time. it's fast and accurate.

  • Good buy
I just could not pass it up for $30. Black and Decker is supposed to be a lower-quality home-owner's brand, but I have always gotten good service from them. So far it works fine. Better certainly than the cheap Home Depot Ryobi garbage. Heavy and solid feeling. It has a shamefully cheap handle, however. I own a high quality Makita grinder, too, and its handle is also cheap and easy to chip pieces from, but not this cheap. Consequently, I handle the handle on this item gently and watch how and where I put the tool down. It has a nice easy-push shut-off button I like. My Makita has a paddle on/off on the bottom, and when I put it down it can hit that and spin the tool around. Not good. . ... show more

  • Best value for homeowners
This grinder really surprised me. It's made well, easy to use, priced right, and has a one year warranty. To be clear, this grinder is not meant for commercial use, I doubt it would withstand that kind of work load. But for the homeowner or occasional project person, this is it. When it comes to what type of disc to use, for grinding I would stay with the recommended "type 27" depressed discs (raised center) because of their thickness. Because of their thickness this type of disc must run centered in the disc guard. For cutting however you can use flat discs, which are thinner, as long as they are the correct diameter with a 7/8" center hole. Being thinner means they'll run off center in the disc guard, but that won't affect their use. All you need to do is invert the collet so the shoulder is facing up and the collet is laying flat on the disc. You'll know if the collet is not installed correctly because you won't be able to tighten it enough to secure the disc. For depressed discs the collet goes shoulder toward the disc, for flat discs the collet goes shoulder away from the disc. ... show more
