This little motor has been exactly what I was looking for. I didn't want a big fast motor. I just wanted something to get me away from the shore and allow me to fish all sides of the rivers and lakes near where I live. This motor has been very reliable. I did find that once I set the starting gas position higher than is recommended, as a motor starting position, it starts on the first pull almost every time. This motor pushes my 14' Alumacraft boat at about 7-8 mph. I did keep topping the gas off, but honestly this thing runs on thimbles of gas. I have hit my 10 hour break-in period and am almost positive the entire 10 hours would have only used one tank of gas. I am probably exaggerating, but it is very efficient on gas. Now, having said that, once you run around at 7-8 mph, there is a natural desire to want to go faster. I can see myself buying the 12 or 18 HP versions in the future. But, keep in mind, the 12 and 18 HP versions are 2-stroke and not 4-stroke like the 6.5HP, so you will have to mix your gas for those. The 6.5 HP takes Gear Oil and Motor Oil (in different compartments of course). 4 Stroke Marine oil 10W-30 or 25W-40. The Gear oil is Marine Gear Lube SAE-90. Hope this helps ... show more

The media could not be loaded. Product seems to work exactly as specified. I have the 18hp and took about 4 pulls on the first fire up. After that 1/2 pull and it’s going. Using 25:1 oil to gas for the first tank. I knew I would have this problem but it’s alittle short on the transom. Can’t go full throttle but like I said I knew I might need a jack plate. Other than that so far so good amazing for the price. Chugs my 15.5 fisher bass boat around no problem. Very quiet my old motor was louder than a weed eater this one I can talk to people on the boat even when throttling. If you have a old boat and just wanna get around on the water at a decent pace then this is the motor for you! Got it in like 5 days when the estimated time was 14 days. I’ll update if anything changes or if the motor starts having problems. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. Starting break in. Must fill lower unit full of lube. Doing about 20:1 fuel oil and so far so good. Shift fine, idles ok after a little adjustment, pees water well. Restarts only take 1/2 pull. Stop switch is the kill switch; no separate stop button. All bolts appear to be properly torqued. This seems like a steal! ... show more

For the price you can't go wrong. I have had very little to no issues with this motor. I use it almost every week end on my tinder to get out to my sailboat. The motor fires right up every time. I did recently have an issue with the safety lever that prevents the pull cord from engaging when the motor is in gear pop out and I had to troubleshoot but I just popped it in and it worked again. I think the lever could designed to be a little less prone to pop out but now that I know what to look for its a quick fix. As the title says I'm on my second one because the first one was stolen out of my car, it worked really well so I bought another one. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. I’m still currently in the “break in” period with this motor and have not used it on the water yet. I will update this in the future. However after having the motor for a full 24 hours now I will say so far so good. The motor arrived 3-4 days earlier than estimated. It was in good new condition right out of the box. Once I added fuel, gear oil, and some grease she fired right up on the fourth pull. (I was excited and forgot to pull the choke) since then it’s started on the first or second pull every time. In my video you will see right at the end that the motor did cut off on its own. I learned that it has a temp gage and when it reaches a certain temp it kills the engine. What happened was my trash can of water had been cycling for about a hour and half and had warmed the water up. One I dumped water and replaced with new she ran fine again. So if you’re not using ears I recommended changing out your can water every hour if that’s how you plan to break it in. Will update how it runs on the water in a few days. ... show more
