These do not work. Birds built their nest on them 4 times. This last time, I just gave up. Now I have to wait until the baby birds leave the nest before I pull them down. I wish I could get my money back.

My problem was my neighbor's cats getting at the bluebird boxes. They were successful at killing one clutch. I tried everything from nails to tacks to 3 inch screws but nothing can detour a cat except the spikes and they worked! The cat can walk along that 1/2 inch wide plank with ease but the minute they put their paws on these spikes they could not get away fast enough. The easiest way to install these I found was to use the garden cloth fastening pins, slip them through the holes on each end place over the top of the fence then tap them into place with a ball pin hammer and use a stapler just on one side of the fence as shown in photos. Even though I mounted the bluebird boxes at the top of 4 foot electrical metal conduit poles they could not be detoured from jumping. Now they can't get close enough to jump. I left plenty of rooms for the birds to land on the fence!

We purchased these for the top of our fence to help keep our cats in our yard. They are definitely doing the trick. We let the cats investigate them and gently touch them so that they know they don't want to touch them. Now when they see them on places they want to jump to try and leave the back yard they meow in frustration. These are very very sharp, so if you are using them for something similar make sure your pet has a chance to investigate them first and learn that they don't want to touch them in a controlled way. If our cats would have jumped on these with full force it might have hurt them or cut their paws.
