The chord is electrically perfect, but, in my case, I have to screw the hand held radio into the SMA female adapter. It would be easier to screw the adapter into the radio. Small item, and maybe the electrical standard for the SMA female adapter is that the external collar is fixed to the coax wire. All in all, I would say the adapter is completely functional, but it would be nice to screw the collar into the radio. ... show more

FIRST NOTE: I see several bad reviews there the buyer didn't understand what this cable was used for. That's unfortunate for them, and if they're not experienced radio users, I understand. I am a long-time ham radio op, and I knew just what this category of cable is used for. The idea is you have an external antenna - probably a magnet-mount mobile antenna - on the roof of a vehicle. That cable has a 'PL-259' or 'UHF' (same thing, two names) connector. But your radio had a tiny SMA connector. There are UHF-to-SMA adapters, but the heavy coax plus the adapter can put some strain on the radio's connector. A 'pigtail' adapter like this reduces that strain. I ordered two, and they arrived yesterday. I haven't used them yet, so I'll edit this review if I have a problem. [UPDATE: they work well] I did screw one onto the HT (more on that below) but didn't try it with an antenna. First note is that construction seems very good. The connection at both ends is solid, though it's covered with heat-shrink which could cover some sins. I'm guessing both ends are crimp connections, and I don't have a problem with that if they're done well. The coax is heavier than I expected. I have a few other 'versions' that use RG-174. This wire is stamped RG58AU, though it seems a bit thinner than typical RG58. No big deal either way. This won't be used in a high-stress environment, but interesting to note. I don't think this somewhat heavier cable will add too much extra strain on the SMA connector, but it will add a little. One thing about this kind of cable with a 'female' SMA connecter is that it doesn't have a free-spinning collar for screwing onto the radio the way a 'male' SMA connector does. I was curious if they had any scheme for handling that, but they don't. You have to either spin the whole cable (not possible if you have an antenna cable attached to the other end), or spin the radio. I tested this by spinning the radio, which worked OK. But I'll be using this with often with a power cable (battery replacement) on the radio, so it won't want to spin, either. No biggie - it's easy to remove for a moment. I mention this because manufacturers have a choice of male or female antenna connections on their radios. The Japanese manufacturers (ICOM, Kenwood, Yaesu) all chose female. The Chinese manufacturers I've encountered (TYT, Baofeng, Anytone) all choose to put a male connector on the radio. There's no difference when connecting an antenna, though it makes aftermarket 'extended' antennas incompatible without an adapter. But it creates this 'spin the radio' phenomenon when using an adapter cable like this one. ... show more
