  • You get what you pay for, but not much else
Color: Blackwhite 49cm/32 Spoke
This is my first (new) road bike, so you may want to take that into consideration as you read this review. Firstly, the things I’ve had issues with so far. (Please keep in mind that most of these things are probably very normal issues to deal with when you get a new bike when you’re still getting used to it and how to fix and adjust things on it) My bike arrived with a rather large scuff on the back wheel where the paint was completely scraped off. It looks as though someone had already tried riding it, and scraped a curb. However, since it didn’t bend the wheel, this is purely aesthetic and it doesn’t bother me much. The bolt securing the front wheel looks old ( and was over tightened to the point that I’m going to have to buy a different tool in order to get it off and switch it out for a quick release.) and my front disk break rotor arrived bent slightly ( I contacted the seller, and they agreed to send me a new rotor to fix the issue with that. They were very quick to respond and get me taken care of.) As for the bolt looking old, I don’t really care about that, because I was purchasing quick release parts to replace it anyway, however I thought it was worth mentioning that it seems like this might’ve been a returned bike, that was sent back out to me. Also the rear reflector, snapped off before my first ride. But that’s an issue I’ve had with every bike I’ve ever gotten. So I wouldn’t blame this bike in particular for that issue. Reflectors just tend to be made cheaply. I’m not wild about the placement of the gear change mechanism on the handles. It seems like an odd place for it. It’s not terrible, but it does seem odd to me that it’s so far away from the brakes, which makes it very difficult to switch into a different Gear on descents. If you like to do long climbs and descents, this bike’s headset may not be the best for you. However, if you’re a beginner who is sticking to mostly flat roads, it’s totally fine. The handlebar caps also pop off really easily and the moment I took it out of the box that happened and the handlebar tape unraveled. This was an easy fix but minorly annoying. I will probably buy different handlebar tape in the near future and different caps. This might be something to be aware of if you tend to store an emergency bill inside your handlebars. Each of the other issues I’ve had so far are most likely due to my own adjustments on the bike. However, I still want to mention them in case these are things you want to be aware of. The front brake does not seem to be as sensitive as I would like it, and so far adjusting it has not helped. I suspect that this will be fixed when I receive the new rotor the company is sending me and I adjusted a bit after that. I had difficulty getting the nuts, which secure the saddle to the stem, tight enough that the saddle did not shift back-and-forth while riding, which made for a very uncomfortable ride until I had fixed it. I’ve also noticed that this bike requires quite a few different tools in order to adjust everything. So you’ll probably want to invest in a good multi tool not a cheap one. I’m currently having an issue where, when switching rear cogs, the 6th doesn’t switch. I have to switch straight from 7 to 5. Six doesn’t do anything. However, I suspect that I just need to do some adjustments on that to get that to work properly. Lastly, if you are going to be doing steep descents, please Please! make sure that your headset (handle bar) is tightened appropriately. Mine apparently was a little bit loose and I almost ended up flipping headfirst because the headset shifted while I was going downhill using the drop downs. I’ve since tightened this, and it seems to fix the issue. Sidenote, just as a preference, I would’ve liked there to be more than one mount on the frame for water bottles or a tire pump. The single spot for mounting is extremely limiting as far as supplies that you can take with you. However, that’s probably my fault because I’m guessing that was described in the Amazon posting. Aside from the issues that I’ve had with the bike so far, which I mostly suspect are just normal issues when you’re getting used to a new bike, I’ve enjoyed this bike a lot more than my very heavy, very slow mountain bike. This bike basically flies down the road in comparison. As far as a bike that’s less than $300, I think this is a pretty decent bike. Honestly, I think you get what you pay for, and if you wanted something fancy-that’s going to work perfect-you’re probably going to have to pay a significant amount more than what this bike was. ... show more

  • Great Starter Bike
Been eyeballing this bike for some time. With the pandemic they were selling out very quickly. I'm new to cycling and haven't ridden a bicycle consistently since I was a teenager. Again with the pandemic, I needed an alternate form of exercise as I have no plans to cross the threshold of a gym anytime soon. Bike arrived quickly, I love that it came with all the tools to assemble it. Assemble is probably too strong a word, the bike comes fully assembled and I only needed to mount the front tire, handlebars, seat and pedals. Very simple. I did have some initial problems with the front brakes rubbing but a quick Youtube video and a little patience cleared that up. I simply loosened the front caliper, spun the wheel and gently tightened the bolts one at a time until I heard no more rubbing, fixed. This also comes with a cheap air pump, did the trick to get enough air in to ride to the gast station and air up properly. Tires say 70 PSI Max but I didn't dare put a full 70. 60 was an adequate firmness in my opinion and gave a smooth ride. It's a gorgeous bike, I mean, it just looks good, I may end up removing the stickers from the wheels and opt for something less flashy. In hindsight, I regret getting the 3 spoke wheels whcih I didn't think would be aluminum, it feels heavier than a spoked tire. Bike came with two reflectors, The red for the back was an easy install but I don't see a place where a front reflector would fit, the included is too narrow for the handlebars. My biggest pet peeve is the kickstand, it's a real PITA, the only way it will stand the bike up is if you turn the handlebars at just the right angle, too much to the left if falls, too much to the right, it falls and there is no way that I can tell to adjust it. I may replace this in the future. I also added a water bottle cage from PRO BIKE TOOLS, fit perfectly in the predrilled holes and included screws. I added a front light and back light to supplement the reflectors. Also, I don't really like the height of the handlebars but that might just be something I need to get used to. The pedals are plastic, which I'm afraid will break on my weight, I plan to replace these. In hindsight knowing what I know now, I would opt for a bike with a larger crankset. pedaling is fairly easy but slow, meaning it takes a fair amount of pedaling to keep the bike moving but I'll attribute that to me being a fatty that still expects riding a bike to feel like it did when I was 15. I'm much heavier now so that's a good thing that I actually have to work a little to keep the bike moving but for overall long rides, I wish I had some cruisier gear options. I was sore after my first ride...THAT'S AWESOME, that shows I'm using muscle that I haven't been using..here lately that's probably all of them..lol The seat is painful, it's narrow and hard and with plastic pedals I didn't feel safe standing on these with my weight being about 220 lbs. I will most likely replace the seat and get padded pants. For now this hurts my butt. I do wish the placement of the brakes were a little higher. I know I can adjust them but I don't want to mess up this beautiful tape, so I'll just have to get used to it. The bike is a little heavy, not incredibly weighty but feels heavy when in motion at the lowest gear you can really feel it dragging but again, I'm 220, so there's that. I may take it to a bike shop and see if they can help with the handlebars. It feels awkward for me to have to lean over so much to brake. Brakes however are strong and I really like the disk brakes, especially in damp wet weather. Overall, I'm happy with this purchase, and if all goes well I'll graduate to something lighter, for now this is my exercise routine for the duration of the pandemic. ... show more

  • 54cm 3-Spoke (AKA “K-Wheel”)
To being I’m 6’2” and 215lbs and had no issues with the fit or with the ride on the 54cm bike. However if you are taller than 6’2” I would definitely not recommend this bike as I can tell when riding that I am at the maximum height for this bike. If the frame was any smaller it would not fit me. Bike arrived today in-tact with no damages during shipping. Before I begin this review I must say that I was happily surprised at how fast the bike arrived to my door considering I used the free shipping option. As you have probably already read, the bike itself is rather heavy as it has a steel frame. Besides the weight my only other complaints would be that the gear selectors/levers are rather stiff when trying to shift and the break levers stick out kind of far from the handle bars. Besides that the bike rides beautifully and shifts gears smoothly. I took a short ride on it this morning to get coffee (roughly 7 miles) with no problems. The bike handled really well and was very responsive when going around sharp turns/corners. The last thing I will say, and it is not a complaint as it is a street bike, is that the ride is rather stiff so if you will be going over a lot of large bumps this is not the bike for you. I’m looking to get back into cycling for fitness purposes but didn’t have a large budget so I bought this to hold me over until I can afford something better. ... show more
