  • A Good Alternative, Be Mindful with a Gas Mod
Color: Silver
Pic on the wood peel is first attempt with pellets, pic on the rack is the first attempt with gas mod in place. The oven as designed is nice and does exactly what it advertises. Pellets can get the stone and the top fire to a good 800° within 20 minutes, and higher temps if you want to wait a bit longer - I personally don't need to. I did as others have described and modded an Ooni Gas Burner onto this, which is a monumental upgrade over pellets - PSA, be aware this would void any type of warranty on the burner or the oven. Self-tapping #10 1" screws will do the trick, but be careful to get the unit flush with the Big Horn - otherwise the flame will want to come out of the rear. Mounting this is a tad tricky, as there are a couple tiny screws in place where the burner would want to mount. Overall, the mod is doable but takes some handiness. This oven works as a pellet oven, but I found that the smokey taste from pellets is not what I'm looking for personally. YMMV, but my pellets coupled with the fire starter yielded a bit acrid of a smoke flavor. That result, plus the work it takes to manage the fire, led me to install the gas burner, which is much, much easier to use. If you get this oven in a sale and mod it for gas, you'll come out at least $100 ahead of getting the Ooni Karu. I believe you have to buy the gas attachment separately for that anyways. If sticking with pellets, don't get some expensive flavor pellets or anything - just get the lowest ash-content neutral pellet you find and it should be good. ... show more

  • Great gift 5++
Color: Silver
Bought for my sister and she loves it. We had homemade pizza Christmas night. Told BIL to watch some you tube videos and he put it together in no time. I bought extra pizza pans so they can keep making them one after the other. It was like being at the pizza parlor making your own pizza your way. He watched how to cook them on you tube also and we didn’t have any mishaps whatsoever. It may look like a challenge and I even bought a big table to put it on. That saved us time and he you tubed the table also. He did it by himself. I would say about an hour, maybe 25 minutes more for his coffee breaks. If he didn’t understand anything he went right back to the videos. Fresh dough is best, we tried the Pillsbury dough also but it doesn’t roll out as well. Remember Corn starch so it doesn’t stick. Don’t try to make the dough really thick, you’ll wind up with doughy pizza or burnt. We got our dough from Redners, it’s in a bag already made. She bought my brother one just like it she was so impressed. The conscience of it being portable is great, we can’t wait to take it to the RV. Laser pointer temperature gun works best, we didn’t even have that and still great. Turn like every 5 seconds for an even cook. I wish I took videos and pictures, but after we got to temp everything moved so fast, like an assembly line, I didn’t have time. ... show more

  • Phenomenal
Color: Silver
Just got it a few days ago and tried it out today. Operation is simple and I was blown away at the results. It stayed pretty consistent at 900 degrees and our pizzas cooked in about 75-80 seconds with a smoky wood flavor. I can’t imagine a better value for the money

  • Great Value with a Learning Curve - Worth the Effort for Wood-Fired Pizza Lovers
Color: Silver
The BIG HORN OUTDOORS Pizza Oven has been a noteworthy addition to my outdoor cooking arsenal, deserving a solid four-star rating. This wood pellet pizza oven is a great value for its price, offering the delightful experience of wood-fired pizza made right in my backyard. The oven itself is well-constructed and has an aesthetic appeal that enhances the outdoor cooking experience. The use of wood pellets for fuel is a smart choice, as it imparts a genuine smoky flavor to the pizzas, akin to what you would expect from a high-end pizzeria. The heat distribution is generally even, and once you get the hang of it, the oven is capable of cooking pizzas to perfection with that desirable crispy crust and well-cooked toppings. However, there is a noticeable learning curve to this pizza oven. Mastering the temperature control and understanding the best ways to cook with it takes time and patience. Initially, I found it challenging to maintain a consistent temperature, which is crucial for cooking pizzas evenly. It's definitely not a "set it and forget it" type of appliance – it requires constant attention and adjustment, especially during the first few uses. Despite this, the value of the price is undeniable. Once you overcome the initial learning phase, the results are incredibly rewarding. The joy of serving up authentic wood-fired pizzas to family and friends is worth the effort put into mastering this oven. TL;DR: the BIG HORN OUTDOORS Pizza Oven is a great investment for those who are passionate about pizza and enjoy the process of outdoor cooking. While it might not be the easiest to use right out of the box, the quality of the pizzas it produces once you get the hang of it is impressive. I recommend it to anyone looking for a cost-effective way to enjoy wood-fired pizzas at home, with the caveat that there's a bit of a learning curve involved. ... show more

  • Super Easy to Use
Color: Silver
It takes a little experimenting to get the wood pellets to cook time ratio down (they burn super fast). But it bakes the pizzas perfectly and it's really easy to use/put together. Be gentle when closing the door- it has to fit under a little lip and should slide into place. DO NOT clean it when it's still hot or it'll warp. Does a great job of insulating the 800+F- we measured the outside of the oven at ~120F, but the inside was literally 8x that. It's also super portable and will fit just about anywhere on your patio. Be sure to have some clearance for the stack- the flames absolutely will come out the top and singe anything in its way (including arm hair, as found out by my husband). ... show more
