  • Almost perfect, what a great design.
Superb. Can't imagine how they thought of so many details and got them just right. So easy: I leave it set at 3 minutes soak time, but changing that is just a button push. Not confusing, just push the button and wait for 4 minutes and drink coffee. Easy to clean up, easy to set up. Amazing. Only thing I can't do - and I'm not taking off any points for this, is that I can't set it up with one of those timed outlet timers to go off in the morning, because I have to actually push the button to turn it on. But that's not a big deal - I set it up at night, in the morning push the button, take a shower, and coffee ready for me. All timing works impeccably : Push the start button, about a minute and a half later the water goes up, 3 minutes later coffee comes down, it keeps it warm for 30 minutes. And I love siphone coffee. ... show more

  • NOT safe
The product worked few times, but started "exploding"; all the hot water/coffee coming up with enormous amount of pressure. On a second time it burned me as I was standing about 3 feet away. The product is terrible and unsafe. The seller is not responding

  • really wanted this to be the one for easy siphon brew but...
so years ago i had the bodum electric vacuum brew pot - it was plastic, had a simple metal filter, made a full pot of the best tasting (ie, siphon/vacuum brew) coffee ever. hooked me. then after years it stopped working and was no longer available. i pretty much quit coffee after that, except occasionally, because NOTHING beats the flavor profile of siphon/vacuum brewed coffee. then a few years back, the glass ones started showing up. but hard to set up, easy to break, annoying cloth filters and springs to hold them. i gave them a pass. then i found the solac (here on amazon). wanted it to work so bad, but had all the leaking problems documented in so many reviews, even after getting a replacement. only got half a dozen cycles before it was in the trash. sad. then i saw this one and - despite the reviews - decided to give it a go. because i love the flavor of this kind of brew. first try, just used as directed. and of course the reviews held: - doesn't fully empty the upper chamber, leaving about 1/2" (1cm)...which is not a problem per se, you lift the filter part out and it drains down. the unit is one piece so no mess there. BUT of course if you don't fully drain and suck the air through the grounds you don't get the oils that make this vac brew soooooo good. so that was fail. - and as so many people noted, it's TINY, makes ONE VERY SMALL cup of coffee. so that's a strike too, strike two. i tried overfilling it just a little bit and it was ok, it didn't overflow or anything, but still the added volume was only a sip or two, the reservoir tapers so not really much you can add before it will overflow when brewing. but i tried. - finally i tried one reviewer's suggestion to put a foil blocker in the cap to force the air through the sides of the filter to get the liquid to fully extract. this actually seemed to work, tho i had added the extra little bit of water, and i used more grounds (closer to 3 scoops - 2 scoops was really weak on the first try). it didn't like that on the uptake (shook, rattled, made a beep), and there was a tiny bit of leftover coffee in the top. and there was still some water in the bottom, didn't pull it all up. i will try again at the max fill line with the foil. don't know if it was the extra water, extra grounds, or the foil, or all of the above at the same time. hopefully with the foil and more grounds it will work. the extra water wasn't enough to fill a cup anyway. - oh and the lock/unlock is backward on the lid as others noted. ridiculous. i mean it;s in that experiment the flavor was much better, so maybe more grounds and the foil so it pulls it all through will make a good (but tiny) cuppa. ** ultimately, using the foil hack, more grounds (fill it), water no more than the max line, even a tiny bit less... and then pouring it, adding more water, running it again (3min both times) gets me a decent cupful that tastes pretty good, pulls all the liquid down for that siphon flavor profile. but that's a lot of extra work and time for one cup of coffee. I will cut something to use instead of foil, since that might change the flavor. bottom line - if they'd made it twice the size (or larger for people who drink a lot of coffee) and fixed the extraction process to complete (no holes in the top of the filter section maybe, since the foil block seems to work), it would be 5 stars. maybe someone is reading the reviews and feedback and they'll come up with a refined product. final comment - it's super fast heating the water, so you can use it to heat some water faster than a microwave. can probably over-fill to get enough for a cup of cocoa, tea, or instant. i'll try that too. ... show more

  • Good but won't last
I bought this pot a while ago and it was good at first but just wasn't built to last. The lid will warp over time resulting in the seal not being maintained or pressure dislodging the lid and allowing the pot to blow off. The pot requires extra course coffee because the filter is so fine and it clogs when you use the recommended amount of coffee. I will say the controls are great and cleaning is easy. ... show more

  • Delicious Siphon Coffee but design has a fatal flaw that is fortunately easy to fix
I’m lowering my rating from 5 to 4 stars because of a fatal design flaw I discovered in this product, which I’ll go into below. When fixed my rating returns to 5 but customers should not have to do this themselves, the manufacturer should’ve known better. I’m somewhat of a coffee snob. I roast my own beans and have a Pavoni lever espresso machine I use (or used to use) every morning, but my favorite coffee is siphon or vacuum brewed because it truly has the best flavor. Unfortunately, making it that way takes considerable time and, because I like to make my coffee a cup at a time, makes more than I want, plus, it take a while to clean up after. This device makes it a cup at a time and the coffee it brews is frankly superior in quality to any I’ve gotten out of any other siphon brewer, including my Yama. On the plus side, fill it with water, add coffee to the basket, assemble it, turn it on, and depending on how long you set it to steep, in about five minutes you’ll have an outstanding cup of coffee, about as good as you’re going to get from whatever beans you use (yes, you have to use good beans to get good coffee), and that’s not hyperbole. When done, immediately run the basket under cold water so you can handle it, dump the grounds, give it a rinse, then rinse the carafe and you’re good to go for the next cup. It’s not that difficult to clean. Issues I encountered: The lock, unlock icons on the lid give you the impression unlocked is locked & vice versa - as a result the first time I used it the lid popped off spoiling my first attempt. Didn’t make that mistake again. The fill line on the side of the carafe is small and difficult to see, however, once you fix it (see below) you can pretty much ignore it. The basket is small and difficult to fill. I’ve repurposed a V-60 coffee brewer as a funnel and that works fine, but you’ll need something to help you load the basket. They could’ve made it wider and more squatty and it would’ve been easier to fill and just as effective. The fatal flaw is with the top of the coffee basket. Instead of making it solid, it’s a screen. Why this is a problem is while it’s great for allowing the coffee to enter the upper chamber to steep, when the lower heat shuts off and the coffee siphons back down, as soon as the level goes below the top of the basket, WHOOSH, air rushes thru the grounds rapidly, killing the vacuum and as a result the rest of the coffee sits in the neck of the upper chamber because the lower pot no longer has low air pressure, which is ridiculous, then you have to wait for it to drain like a drip / pour over, and that can take a while. This is absurd as it defeats the entire purpose of the vacuum, which is the whole point of these brewers. ALL the coffee should rapidly siphon into the lower chamber with a powerful SUCK action, followed by some bubbles until the pressure equalizes, and this will happen after you fix it. Shape a piece of aluminum foil to fit in the lid of the basket to block the screen and voila, it’ll work as intended. The coffee enters the upper chamber thru the sides of the basket instead of the top (taking longer, but that’s a good thing), and when the heat shuts off it rapidly drains all the way to the bottom thru the sides of the basked as it should. You can also now ignore the “Max” line and make a bigger cup. The piece of foil gets pressed into the top of the basket and doesn’t fall out between cups. Mine hasn’t yet anyway. Nobody should have to do this though and I’m surprised it’s being sold with this issue. Doesn’t anyone test these appliances before they’re sold to the public? ... show more
