  • Acceptable crate but could be better
Size: 36" Dog Cage
This is a pretty good crate. It weighs 30 pounds, so it's light enough considering it is metal. It is very sturdy when set up, and although it is not the easiest crate I've seen to fold down, it is not difficult. Also I strongly prefer a metal pan over a plastic one - somehow they seem easier to clean and they stay cool in hot weather provided you keep it in shade. This crate's selling point for me was the fact that it is 26 inches tall. Most crates of this kind are 24 or 25" high. But my dog is tall and needs a 27" high crate, but my space is very limited so I did not want to get the next size up as those are much longer. I wish they'd make a taller crate for tall dogs as I don't think making it 27" high would weaken the design of this crate. But at 26" it is better than any others I could find and is doable. My main gripes though is that I wish the side door was hinged on the other side of the opening. My dog is out of a kennel and appreciates having a crate to nap in, so I intended to leave it set up with one door open at all times so he could use it as he wished. But since the door opens at the end of the crate with the hinge near the corner, that left the door sticking out for me to trip over as I passed by (I'm blind). If the hinge were on the other side the door could fold back against the side of the crate when opened. Also the sliding bolt latch is not that simple to use. You have to slide the two bolts across one at a time and I often had to jiggle the gate to get the bolts lined up so they'd slide over. I've seen a better design where the sliding bolt was oriented vertically and you lifted it up and slid it into 2 locking rings in one smooth motion. I would have preferred that design. Also the carrying handle is pathetic. It's so cheap and thin that I'm surprised it can support the 30lbs weight when you want to move this thing! This crate makes an acceptable household crate. I like that it is fairly easy to fold down and can be stored away to make more room for guests or to take along on a long trip. But it is not quite so simple to handle so it does not lend itself well to shows or such situations where the crate will need to be moved often. ... show more

  • Folding, 3 door crate cage is great for cats too!
Size: 30" Dog Cage
All the features for this crate come in handy. The folding feature, the 3 doors and large size. Very nice! Not to mention the affordable, inexpensive price. It is my first crate and I wasn't looking for any kind of a high end crate product. Just something to use for the spring, summer and fall months in my backyard for some of my cats who don't know what their safe boundaries are. Most of my cats stay in my yard, but a couple of them dart off and wander, which is dangerous and a big problem for me. Talk about a solution to a problem, I am so happy, because all of my cats love the outdoors and can't wait until winter is over to get outside and now they can. I think two adult cats fit comfortably in the crate. I purchased two water bowls that I have attached at different locations in the crate, that are crucial. If I put a bowl of water on the crate floor it just gets knocked over or gets dirty which is very bad and dangerous in hot weather. I also took out the black plastic tray, they really didn't like that too much, seemed to absorb the suns rays and heat, so I added straw and they just loved it. I use the black plastic tray as a shield from the sun to provide needed shade as necessary. So, I guess that came in handy anyway. I love the 3 doors… just in case I have to hurry and get the cats in because it's about to rain, I don't have to bend, stretch and contort myself into every position trying to get the cats out. It is so easy to get them from almost every angle of the crate. And as far and the folding feature, it was pretty easy to unfold - make sure you have a lot of space to do this. When winter rolls around, all I have to do is compost the old straw, fold and I'm ready for next year. I will be watching for rust - none so far, but these days, I don't trust a lot of metal used in products these days - so we will see. One last thing, the sliding …I don’t know what you call it the locks, hooks…whatever…for the doors, at times seem to be a little fussy, I find that I have to take a little time sliding the hooks left and right until they lock or unlock. A little bit of a pain, but what the heck. It’s no big deal. Thumbs up for this large crate cage! ... show more

  • Cages are not all alike from various sellers
Size: 24" Dog Cage
The cages are pretty good for the price I paid but you can read other reviews for that info. I'm going to discuss my experience with the recent 2 cages Vs the 2 cages I bought last year (supposedly identical per the listing info). The main problem I have is with the handle for the cage. It won't stay on. It doesn't snap closed around the bar and just falls inside the cage when you let go of it. This is very inconvenient if you have a feral cat or vicious pit bull inside there. You don't really want to risk getting bitten or scratched to try fishing out the handle. As others have noted the newer cages aren't as heavy-duty as the ones from last year. The bars are thinner and some of the materials to hold them together seem flimsier to me. All that said, even though I paid $5 apiece more this year than I did last year for better cages, I'm overall satisfied with the usefulness and price of the item. Just very annoyed that i was expecting the exact same cages I bought last year which were noticeably better. I'd still recommend the item. It is OK for the $25 price on the 24-inch size. ... show more
