My daughter asked me to look at her drill as it stopped working after three weeks. I had to separate the back cover from the front cover to evaluate. I did this write up as this appeared to be a very common problem with this model. The back cover has typical plastic clips along the left and right sides. Unfortunately, the manufacturer also has a plastic molded piece mounted from the front to the back cover just above the back belt carrier mount (image 1). I used spreaders to separate the halves, breaking the plastic center retainer on the back cover. Now the entire thing clips back together pretty well. Next, I used wire cutters to cut off the plastic fins on the plastic piece going through the motherboard so it could slide out easily (image 2). Doing it again, if I knew where this plastic piece was holding the front to the back, I'd probably drill a very shallow hole in the back plastic. Then, the back would pop off without any damage to the side clips or any marring of the plastic. Finally, I checked battery voltage. Excellent at 10.82V! Next, I checked the driver output voltage (pin's 6 and 8 in image 3) with the pen connected and the drill turned on. (This sends the proper voltage based upon your desired speed setting to the pen.) No voltage! Moreover, it was constantly turning off after a couple of seconds! I unplugged the pen and tried it again. Now, I saw varying DC voltage based upon my desired speed setting! The pen killed the driver at some point even though it (the pen) still works as new. (I tried a regulated power supply with the pen only. It worked just fine.) The driver is labeled as H450. This is short for TB67H450FNG. It can deliver 3.5A (TB67H451FNG is an identical part with a 3A limit.) They're manufactured by Toshiba. Once the integrated circuit came in from Mouser, I used hot air (soldering workstation) to replace the driver. The nail drill lives again! BTW, the epad under the part requires patience for part removal. Update 6 weeks later: The nail drill is working fine. With all of the failures reported here on Amazon from other customers, I suspect the manufacturer might have received a questionable batch of driver IC's. I bought this nail drill so I can began to do my own nails at home and for a couple of weeks it was working fine. Then alll of a sudden it started acting weird so I charged it thinking it needed to be fully charged , after charging it I started using it and the nail drill speed started jumpng around. which means i would put it on a vey low speed and randomly it would began to speed up out of nowhere and make a weird noise and smell. Company has not helped at all with this problem , and I am vey dissapointed becasue this nail drill is not cheap smh. UPDATE*** The first one I purchased lasted about 6 months with consistent use professionally. I got a replacement because the first stopped working/malfunctioning. The replacement has now begun malfunctioning after about 2 months, if that. I love this e-file and have no other complaints except that it doesn't last! A shame because this drill rivals any high end e file on the market. It just doesn't last. As a professional I need the consistency. I have purchased a few other efiles as a professional nail tech. They usually go out in about a year. Some of them were really rough and caused friction very quickly. I've thought about getting the mani pro passport, but I know techs that have them and say they go out in a year or they have a lot of problems that need to be sent out to be fixed. Though I'm sure not every user has the same complaint, hopefully, I didn't want to waste that kind of money. I liked the look and description of this one, though the promise is no different than any other efile. When I tell you this baby rivals the mani pro...hear me...this efile is quiet, low vibration, and low friction. Every promis kept. I LOOVVVEEE IT!! My clients notice the difference. It is so much more comfortable for them. The difference is huge. I love that even when using chunky course bits to remove acrylic it is still very smooth, considering. I will buy this drill again. So far I've used it for a couple of months and it's consistent. Even if it goes out in a year, I'd still be happy to get a new one because it works so well and is super affordable! I'm hooked! I bought this Bestidy Nail Drill Kit on Thursday 06/04/20 about $65.99 on a friend's reccomendation. The shipping was free and estimated to be delivered the next Tuesday 06/09. But it arrived early on Saturday 06/06, 2 days after I placed the order. I was impressed on how fast the shipping was! The product package was very nice, sort of like Apple's iPhone/iPad packaging style. Inside there were the control unit + drill with connection cord (gray) and USB charging cable (white) but no charger (you have to have your own USB charger), a box of several kinds drill heads and a bag of drill bits (that could be easily put on the drill head and changed out). The whole machine was so well-designed and constructed and professionally looking. There was also a short but precise manual but the ergonomics was superb-it was very intuitive that I did not need to even use the manual much at all. Fully charged took 3-4 hours but one thing was that it only showed 99% charged and not reach 100%. Maybe a firmware update could fix that problem on future version (?) The drill ran very smoothly and quietly. Overall, my impression is that the product is very well designed with excellent controls, ergonomics, and functionality. For $65.99, it is very inexpensive and affordable. I only have been using it for a few weeks now but my friends used it for months now and they have only good things to say about this machine. My buying experience with this seller was also very positive and very fast and free shipping. My final words: 5 star product! Would buy the product again! ... show more
