  • It's the hardware,stupid........
Color: White Size: King
I spent a couple hours this past Saturday exploring the pseudo-wood adirondack chair market as I'm tired of these cheap, flimsy, Home Depot/Lowe's plastic chairs that pinch your butt as they inevitably crack from sitting in the sun.. I settled on the Highwood King size Adirondack chair after reading 100% of the available reviews. Highwood king size is just perfect for my 6'2" 260 lb incredibly masculine, high density frame. It came today three full days after I ordered it.Very quick.Mine is white. I know, that's racist. Packed adequately, I confirmed all of the chair pieces were present and I set out to assemble this summer drinking platform. If you pay someone $114 to assemble this for you and you're a guy, slap yourself. It goes together easily in approximately 20-30 min if you're doing it by yourself. When finished, I will say that I am satisfied with the product today. Looks great, adjustable nicely curved back, comfortable height from the ground , The arm position is comfortable and there is room to spare even for a guy my size. It did not explode when i sat on it-another plus. Now for the negatives. It flexes quite a bit. Compared to the high quality wooden ones, I would say it is 25% more flexible. So what? Well, here's what. The fasteners used to assemble this chair are the typical Ikea-esque crap we've all cursed. The bolts easily thread into the receivers with the included allen wrench but that receiver is in the flexible plastic which is flexing under your moneymaker.Don't over tighten!! This will eventually fail but hopefully will take a while. The screws which attach some of the supports have star drives in their VERY UNDER-SIZED screw heads and they pull deeply into said supports when you're driving them. It won't take much to pop that screw head the rest of the way through the pseudo-wood. If I had it to do over again, I would not use an electric screw gun to accomplish this.Drive them with the screw driver type handle you hopefully have in your 1000 piece drill bit your dad gave you. Now for my favorite part. It's my favorite part because many of those reviews that I read mentioned issues with being shorted hardware or other components. They shorted me three of those beautiful tiny headed screws ! They also put one of the plastic washers on the wrong side of one of the legs-No biggie. The glue lets you pry it off and place it where it should go.I just spent 15 minutes looking for a place to contact the manufacturer so they could remedy the screw thing but it is not readily accessible. Do you have a pet peeve? (one of...) Mine is picturing someone whose only job is counting out the hardware that goes in each plastic bag for this chair playing games on his cell phone while he's working and not caring whether he put the needed 10 screws in the bag or just 7. Ehhh.......who cares. Welcome to 2019. Buy the chair. Overall, I'm happy with it. ... show more

  • Great chair, easy to set up (but shockingly poor shipping controls at Amazon for this product)
Color: White Size: King
I ordered 2 sets of the Hamilton (style) chairs and ottomans, but received one Hamilton set and one Westport set (chair and ottoman). I am sending back the Westport set (that was a mistake), and hopefully will receive the correct one. (I will update after I've received the replacement.) The Hamilton set is perfect. It took about 1/2 an hour/45 minutes to set up one chair - primarily because I took my time. A second will take significantly less time, as it's fairly easy. The chairs are quite comfortable and seem pretty durable. Although you can tell that it's not wood (you can always tell), it also doesn't look plasticy or otherwise ugly, like many of the others I've seen. Assuming it holds up over time, it's about as good as you're going to get for a non-wood chair. The difference in the look is (to me) well worth the ability to avoid the upkeep required of wood. UPDATED 8/12/2015: Well, Amazon has managed to - after three tries - correct one of the mis-shipped products (the ottoman), but they have sent 3 incorrect chairs (and still only one correct one). There seems to be a mislabeling at Amazon's warehouse, and despite multiple tries (three so far) they cannot seem to correct it. So, until they fix this, as good as the chair (I can't say chairs, as I still only have one right one) is, I cannot recommend ordering it from Amazon. (I buy lots of things from Amazon and have for years, and this is the first time that they have repeatedly failed to send the right thing - 3 times. It's actually shocking. Until they correct this, buy the chair somewhere else, including direct from the manufacturer, if that's an option. I'm giving Amazon one last try to correct it. It will be their fourth try.) UDATED 8/15/2015: FINALLY - four tries later - Amazon has finally sent the correct product. Nothing more than a "sorry" and an initial response that I was going to have to wait another several weeks for them to sort through the problem and then I can reorder it in a month or so. I insisted on a human to look at the package and send the right thing. (The problem was obvious - Amazon kept putting the wrong code on the box after it received it from the manufacturer.) Anyway, after putting me on hold for about 10 minutes, the representative said that they would do that and assured me (I had hear that before) that they would get it right this time. Finally, they did. (Now of course, I will set it up and keep my fingers crossed that it's in good condition.) Very disappointing level of service - and very different from Amazon's usual approach. I hope this is not a sign of things to come for Amazon. UPDATED 9/24/2015: After reading cssmgt's comment, I reached back out to Amazon about the service. They provided an appropriate credit for the inconvenience. So, in the end, other than things very late in the season and the inconvenience in having to deal with myriad returns of large boxes, the upshot is that all's well that ends well. And, to reiterate, the chairs, ottoman, and table are all excellent. We're very happy with them. ... show more
