Been trying to use this machine for years. While I originally gave it 5 stars over time it's become more and more unreliable. Stitches never come out right. Tension is terrible. I've watched a gazillion Y*tube channels trying to figure out what user errors I'm making. After 6 years I've decided enough is enough. You certainly get what you pay for. I was pleasantly surprised with how well this machine works. I learned how to sew on one of the fancier Brother machines, so my expectations were low for this cheaper off brand machine. But I was looking for something for simple beginner projects at a much lower price point, and I’m very happy with this product. The thread colors that came in my kit are different from what’s pictured, but it’s not a huge deal. They did a good job including spools and bobbins with nearly matching colors. I LOVE the compact size and how portable it is. I’ve only used it on battery power and I finished an entire project with it. It even handled sewing through like 6 layers of cotton fabric. It wasn’t happy about it, but it got through it beautifully. Some quirks: The bobbin is a bit tricky to thread up through the machine, and the instructions neglect to tell you that you need to lower the foot. It’s shown in the image in the manual, but it’s not an obvious step. You’ll also likely need to spin the hand knob on the right side of the machine a few times to get the bobbin thread to come up through the machine (the manual makes it seem like it happens on the first turn). Additionally, the arrow is pointing the wrong way in the manual when it says “turn counterclockwise”. Turn it actually counterclockwise (towards you) to get it to work. Once I figured that out, I swap out thread and bobbins like a pro. Because the machine is compact, it is a bit tricky to thread the top spool down and through the needle - I have small fingers so I’m able to manage it, but for people with larger fingers or who aren’t as dexterous, a compact machine will likely lead to a lot of frustration. I’m giving this 4 stars instead of 5 because my top thread keeps coming unthreaded from the needle when I start a new stitch, and I don’t think it’s user error. I pretty much set it up the same time every time before I get started, and sometimes it sews no problem and sometimes I end up with the top thread waving around in my face because it came undone. I’ve also noticed sometimes when starting a stitch, the needle will halt and make a slight grinding sound, and it appears like the machine has jammed. To fix this, I turn the hand wheel on the side to do one or two manual stitched, and then it’s able to operate normally from there with the foot pedal. Not sure what causes that but I can work around it.

Its a great machine. I'm currently helping people learn how to sew, but since I don't know how to sew, I had to learn myself in the process. Setup was less than 15 minutes with the help of online tutorials. All the supplies are present and you don't need anything extra except a working outlet. (Oh wait! You don't even need an outlet if you have batteries. I heard the discussion boards say that the battery setup is fine, but a little less powerful, so be careful). This is an extremely portable device. I can see many people using this as their primary sewing machine because it is diverse enough to perform basic tasks. If you are sewing anything larger and thicker than Summer/Fall type clothes, you might run into some power and needle issues; otherwise I can see myself doing the small basic stuff just fine. I enjoyed it so much, I had to buy two more sewing machines; as gifts for the other folks I'm helping to learn. The cost and what you get out of the box is perfect for beginners to get all the supplies and start sewing.

My 11 year old had wanted a sewing machine. My mom and I both sew (she much more than I do) so I wanted to give her something that would be easy to transition to a bigger machine eventually. many of the kids machines I found were cute, but seemed too different from what would be used as an adult. She was ecstatic to get this and has already started using it. My mom helped her get started while I was working, and mentioned that the instructions were not very helpful and would be difficult for someone that didn't already have an understanding of sewing machines.

I bought this sewing machine to teach my granddaughter how to make clothing. It is the perfect sewing machine for an amateur teenager who is just beginning to learn how to sew. The machine is functional, easy to use, and is capable of sewing any thickness of fabric. Its light weight allows for her to take it to her home for practice and bring it back to my home for study and learning.
