  • This is not a well engineered ladder
The info online states a rating of 330 lbs. but the instructions stated a maximum of 225 lbs. . The safety latch would not work without major reworking. The steps are very steep and tend to tip back when climbing. Overall, I am very disappointed, if I had known about the rating mistake in the sales info online I would not have purchased the ladder and thus would not have been disappointed in the performance. ... show more

  • Gift for my mom - she REALLY likes it! Good-lookin' too
My mom was wanting a 3-stair stepstool. She's 75 and if you don't keep an eye on her she'll be standing on the kitchen counter cleaning on top of the cupboards LOL I was looking at the 3-steppers and saw this one and really liked the idea of handrails. (The price wasn't that much more for a 4-stair vs. a 3-stair.) Mom said she thought it might be too much and I said "well, it's better to have 4 steps and not need them all, than to have 3 steps and need a 4th." It seems like a major production when you open it up, very elaborate and sturdy, like something you'd see backstage at a playhouse for decorating, etc. But it's also very attractive. The handrails are more for the first 3 steps up. When you're on the 4th, you're somewhat too high to be able to use them. Which is also why I liked it. Because even if she only needs 3, she'll have handrails. On the 3-stepper, the handrails are more for the first 2 steps, and the 3rd, you're too high. (If you get what I'm trying to explain there.) It was easy to put together. Did it in minutes. She wanted to fold it and put it next to the refrigerator. When I first put it together, like I said, it looked like a major production and wasn't sure we were going to be able to. But when we folded it, it still was thin enough to go next to the fridge. I did have to move the fridge over a little to accommodate another couple of inches width in comparison with her old 2-stepper. But I watched her pull it out, open it up, moved it around, close it up and put it back and she did fine. BONUS - that tool belt type attachment for the upper hand rail! AWESOME! Tools, a phone, snacks, whatever! In fact, I'm considering getting one for myself now. Price was reasonable, super fast shipping right to her house. VERY pleased with this purchase and HIGHLY recommend! ... show more

  • Light, strong, and foldable
My wife wanted a more secure ladder for getting things off high closet shelves. For me, just an old-fashioned stepladder seemed fine, and I was suspicious about how well this one might actually “stand up.” I was very pleasantly surprised at how well made and strong it is, and quite easy to assemble. Now, both of us are happy ... especially as we progress in years and realize a misstep off a ladder does not a pleasant future make. ... show more

  • Check the shipment ASAP when you receive it!
Be careful! Open the box immediately when you receive it. I didn't open mine right away until I got ready to use the ladder, which was several weeks after I bought it. There are bits of broken plastic in the box and I don't know what it is. The Safety Lock does not engage on the top step as described ( I tried a hundred different ways to get that lock to click in place and it would not for the life of me!) Also, it appears to be used, as there are strange brown colored scuff marks on the paint in several places. See photos included. Because the Safety Lock doesn't engage, the ladder is very unstable, wobbles around, and it starts to actually fold closed on you when you shift your weight while climbing the steps!! EXTREMELY DANGEROUS and apparently the locking mechanism is essential to being able to use the ladder. Also, while each step platform is nice and deep and wide, there's actually very little clearance in depth, so when you are standing on a step only a few inches of the front of your foot can move forward to engage on the platform, forcing your shin bones to press painfully into the front edge of next step above. This forces your body to want to lean backwards which is also extremely dangerous. It's very disappointing because otherwise the ladder seems pretty nice. It's easy to move, it unfolds smoothly, it folds closed very easily (way too easily because it doesn't lock like it's supposed to), and the rubber feet keep it positiond nicely on the floor (until I actually tried to use it!) and the extra-long hand rails give you a little extra sense of security and balance, especially when you are standing on the upper steps. Maybe I received a one-off, and just got one that was somehow manufactured or assembled improperly? I don't know but I'm really disappointed with this one. ... show more
