  • For first time seamstress
The easy set up and sew is great. The directions about certain steps are not that great. I really like the self tie and cut but there is a trick to it. I'm not very educated as far as machines go so I'm very baffled by another of the things it's equipped to do. But I am able to do basic sewing.

  • Poor design
I bought this machine because I could use it without a foot pedal. I discovered that the on-off button is terrible. First, the location, see the arrow on the pic. The buttons are on the part of the machine that curves inwards--in other words, hard to see. Second, the surface of the buttons feel the same, so it is hard to know for sure your hand is on the correct button. Third and most important: the button does not work instantly, it sews one or two stitches after you try to shut it off. For comparison, when I had a sewing school, our cheap, over-worked Brother machines' on-off switches were instant: when you saw a problem or came to the end and hit the button, the machine stopped immediately. So I know that an instant stop is technologically possible. Another problem with this machine is roughness in the take-up arm. Where I live, high-quality thread is very expensive and not easily available. Ordinary thread snags on the arm. After watching a technician find and remove the thread bits, I learned to open the machine from the back and clean it myself. I should not have to do this. It is easier to sew on buttons on one of my old machines, where I can set the width to the exact amount needed so that the needle can do a zig-zag with the length set at 0 and sew on the button quickly and well. On this machine, although it comes with a button foot, the function is very difficult and time-consuming. The machine is very noisy. When the electrical switch is pushed either to turn on or off the machine, it makes a loud, rough, annoying sound. Pluses are the large number of embroidery stitches, ease of use of them, and the handy little booklet identifying stitches and codes that has its own compartment on the machine itself. Plus the buttonholer works most of the time. ... show more

  • Having issues
I’m disappointed in this machine so far. It continues to break threads and it’s skipping stitches. I’ve changed thread, re threaded the top thread and bobbin, changed the needle and still having problems. I’m trying a different size needle this time. If that doesn’t work I will return the machine.
