Features

  • Automatic Limitation for Double Needles: When you change from a single to a double-needle, the double needle button will help you adapt your needle to the presser foot so that neither needle will inadvertently hit the presser foot and break off. The double-needle safety function limits the stitch width so that the needle doesn't hit the presser foot
  • Adjusting the Presser Foot Pressure to Suit the Material: For some materials, such as lightweight or thin fabrics, it is advisable to adjust the presser foot pressure
  • Automatic Thread Cutter and Tie-Off Function: When you get to the end of a seam, the thread has to be tied off to prevent the seam unraveling. Normally, you would do this by making a quick backwards and forwards stitch. This is no longer necessary with the Bernette 38, as it has an automatic tie-off function
  • Extension Table for Large Sewing Projects Included: The extension table supplied with the Bernette 38 is easy to attach and detach, and gives you more space for large sewing projects such as clothes, quilts, or curtains
  • Eight Presser Feet Included: With your Bernette 38, you get eight presser feet and a stable presser foot shank. You can select the appropriate presser foot for whatever you want to sew

Description

The Bernette 38 is the top model in the Bernette 30 series. This computerized sewing machine offers a wide range of functions at an affordable price–leaving nothing to be desired. It offers 394 different stitches, including the stretch stitch for elastic fabrics. This means you can create fantastic T-shirts from jersey fabric, for example. The Bernette 38 also has eight different 1-step buttonholes and three alphabets. In addition, it has a memory function, via which you can store various combinations of patterns. The Bernette 38 has a useful speed regulator, which can be adjusted on the display. As the top model, this impressive sewing machine also has a bright LED sewing light, a threader, and both an automatic and a manual thread cutter. The Bernette 38 comes with eight different presser feet (soles) and a large extension table as standard.Automatic Limitation for Double NeedlesWhen you change from a single to a double-needle, the double needle button will help you adapt your needle to the presser foot so that neither needle will inadvertently hit the presser foot and break off. The double-needle safety function limits the stitch width so that the needle doesn't hit the presser foot.Automatic Thread Cutter and Tie-Off FunctionWhen you get to the end of a seam, the thread has to be tied off to prevent the seam unraveling. Normally, you would do this by making a quick backward and forward stitch. This is no longer necessary with the Bernette 38, as it has an automatic tie-off function. Simply select the tie- off button and the end of the seam will be tied off automatically. When you have finished your sewing project, press the button for the automatic thread cutter and you can pull your completed work out from under the needle without having to reach for the scissors.

  • AWESOME sewing machine!!!!! High end features at an affordable price
I have been comparing machines for weeks now because I knew it was time for a new one. I have been a lover of Singer Machines and have owned at least four over my 20 years of sewing. I was open to a new brand because my last machine seemed not to be as reliable as previous ones. Of course I would of loved to own a Bernina Machine but was not ready to commit to spending those big dollars yet. In my search I found out that there are two brands that extend from Bernina: Eversewn and Bernette. I did my comparisons with the models and this machine won out because it has an automatic thread cutter button (so awesome). I have only had this for a month but have been using it constantly (busy season). It has so many high end features, I didn't know my previous machine was dated until I got this one. Changing stitch style and length is really easy, the computerization of this machine is straight forward and easy to catch on regardless if you read the instruction manual or not. By the way the manual is clear and direct, I browsed it prior to handling the machine. Another thing I think is worth noting is that the machine also shows which is the correct foot to attach after you choose your stitch style. I have a collection of feet (about 50 bought on amazon) that I invested in for my previous machines that was also low shank, and I have used at least half of them and they fit perfectly, the others I haven't gotten to as yet. This machine also comes with an extension table that comes in handy for larger garments. The machine seems to handle delicate and heavy weight materials all the same and runs super smoothly. I realize compared to other more known brands this didn't have many reviews which made the decision harder for me thus the reason why I felt the need to write this review. This is a great machine, you get beyond value for money with all the bells and whistles attached. If any one is on the fence about this, just do it, get it, it's so worth it. As time passes If there are any changes in thoughts to the quality, functionality or longevity of this sewing machine I surely will make a note in an updated review, but as of now I HIGHLY ENDORSE the Bernette 38. I simply enjoy using it and esthetically its a beautiful addition to my sewing room. UPDATE: It has been over a year and a half since I have bought this machine with almost constant use. This was a great investment and she is still sewing perfect stitches. Using the 1-step buttonhole function is just foolproof. This machine also has two stretch stitch functions which both work great on very stretch fabrics. I do regular at-home maintenance with plans to take her to the shop for a service even though she shows no signs of needing one. I plan on starting a sewing school soon and will be sticking with these lines of machines. Top-quality all the way. UPDATE #2: It's been almost four years and no, I didn't take it for servicing (I really should). I do remove the plate and bobin case periodically to clean the dust and oil. I also change my needles roughly every 10 (garment) projects. I average about four projects a week on this machine and she consistently gives great stitches!!!! Do not hesitate, this is worth every penny. ... show more

  • Very smooth running machine. Excellent uniform stitches!
Everything was great. Much better than a competitor machine that I had to return.

  • great machine, Don't buy this machine online!
First, the machine is great. It is quiet, sews beautiful stitches, is light weight, and relatively simple to use. However, I ran into two major issues. 1. The supplier of this particular item, World Weidner, was totally unresponsive to both voice mail and email contact, even though I got an email reply that I was in que for contact. I initially had a problem with the reverse mechanism, which I finally solved on my own. I NEVER heard from the supplier. 2. A small piece on the presser foot holder broke. I contacted Bernina to see what to do, and had a prompt reply to take it to my local Bernina dealer where it would be replaced under warranty. When I got to the sewing machine dealer, whom I know to be reputable because I have bought from them and dealt with them for years, they said that Bernina only honored warranty issues for machines that were actually sold by the dealer, and that I would have to box up the machine and somehow get it back to the original Amazon vendor, World Weidner, for service. This was the same company that never returned my call or email on the original issue. Ultimately, I have returned the machine with the broken part to the supplier (who never followed up on contact request) via Amazon (who was great with the return) and purchased the machine locally. The machine is fine. Certainly not the multi thousand dollar versions of the top Berninas... but just fine. But do not buy a Bernette (Bernina's junior line) online. Get it from a dealer if you expect any follow up service. ... show more

  • Great upgrade from a starter machine.
So far this is a great machine. A Bernina is in my future, but I wanted to hone in my skills before I invested that expense. The machine is easy to set up and navigate. The manual is helpful in detailing how to use different stitches. I have sewn a few pillow covers with an enclosed zipper on this machine and they turned out great. The stitch quality was smooth and even. I have used the zigzag and overstitch to prepare easily fraying fabrics with ease. The zipper foot lines us perfectly and gave me a smooth stitch. The machine is not loud and does not jump around although I do not use the max speed. I absolutely love that I can control the speed and use the auto start stop button only so far as I am not good at controlling speed with a presser foot. I will get there. ... show more

  • Love My Bernette!!
This sewing machine is fantastic. Super easy to use and sews beautifully. I love the accessories that came along with it, as well as the manual. It's important to read the manual before sewing. I didn't know this model requires only plastic bobbins. Not a problem, just glad I saw this before I used a metal one and ruined something. My old machine was over 40 years old. I love the upgrade and especially the push button thread cutter. Nice treat! ... show more

  • If you are looking for certain functions, it is good.
This sewing machine has many functions and this is lower level of bernina. I chose this machine because of some functions I was looking for. One step button holes, eyelet, bartack, monogram, auto thread cutting, speed, and press foot pressure. I like it overall. It is easy to use and not to slow and quite. However I figured out the foot area makes me hunched and the foot lifting all the way up need strong arm, wrist power even after control the press foot pressure. And the monogram is not really needed. The one thing I don’t really use is another language except english. However I decided to keep it because this is home sewing machine and this is better than other home sewing machine I tried and this is very easy and anyway I can control the foot lifting. I just wish this machine is higher foot space. ... show more

  • Find yourself a couple of YouTube videos and start sewing
I’ve been sewing for a few years. I learned on a $70 Singer with no bells or whistles, so when I upgraded to this one, I felt like I was in Disneyland. It was a bit of a learning curve overload, but searching YouTube for videos made getting the hang of it a cinch. Search for Janome or Bernette - all of the parts and features are the same. ... show more
