I LOVE my Bernie coats. I live on a farm with horses so I spend a LOT of time outdoors in all conditions. This is my Go-To coat. I have posted the picture of my old Bernie that I have used for about 8 years. It is the warmest coat I own and is tough enough to withstand the rigors of farm life. But, alas, I need to replace it and the new one has not changed its design ( like so many other companies) and has kept a good thing going. I bought this jacket at $80 in May 2025 to supplement a heavier Carhartt women’s Sherpa jacket. I live in coastal CA so I didn’t need anything for weather below 50 degrees daytime. It’s the brown color, which is quite dark- at first I thought it was black, but it lightened to an actual chocolate after washing. My Carhartt Sherpa was warm but so heavy I found myself avoiding it, plus I had to strip it off before I worked. This jacket is medium weight, with a short Sherpa knap. It also has a more feminine fit, with 2 snaps at the bottom to give more room if needed. I only wear this jacket with a long sleeved shirt but a vest would probably also fit if not too puffy (ie, I did not override it for layers beyond a flannel shirt). I am a woman 6’ tall, 200 pounds, narrow shoulders and medium bust (usually wear xl if the sleeves are long enough). Hips, so I wear women’s size 18. This XL was slightly long in the sleeves and somewhat big around the belly but I washed it in cold and dried it halfway and it shrank a bit. Comparing again to my Carhartt women’s XL jacket which is so big around the belly that the heat comes out - basically another man’s jacket marketed as a woman’s. I was pleased to see that this jacket has YKK zippers, which are among the best. My similar Dickies jacket was great, but died when the zipper did. This jacket has quilted sleeves which makes it easier to slid on over a long sleeved shirt. The back of the shoulders is gusseted somewhat (not as much as Carhartt) to allow for easier movement when working. The corners of the front pockets are not stitching reinforced like Carhartt does) but it should hold up if you don’t yank on them or overload. The interior right pocket holds a pen/pencil (nothing too fat like a Sharpie), a iPhone 14 in a waterproof Otterbox case, and a map or similar sized item.
