Purchased this combo so I had something to use when my son wanted to go fishing. He's 4 and has been bitten by the bass bug, and I was just getting back in to fishing. When it arrived one of the rings that hold the reel on was already damaged, but usable, and didn't affect the functionality, so I didn't make a big fuss. The two piece is nice since it doesn't take up too much space in the car, but you do spend a little extra time rigging it once you get to the pond. Brought in a largemouth on it my second trip out and the reel held up just fine as did the rod, but after about 4 trips and who knows how many casts, it's gotten a little clunky when engaging it. Overall durability of the rod is decent, but it will not stand up to a 4 year old stepping on it. Long story short, rod snapped, and I'll be putting the reel on something a little sturdier for the time being until I decide what I want to replace it with. ... show more

    • Decent Reel... Don't Trust the Rod.
The reel is decent. Smooth action, positive bail, drag works great... can't ask too much more out of a small spinning real for finesse work and tiny tiny lures. The rod survived one cast with a mini popper. The action was decent for a few *bloops* of the little lure.... then it literally shattered on the first hook-up. I have never had a graphite/fiberglass rod explode the way this thing did. Both sections of rod looked like a rifle barrel that fired while obstructed. The reel is now on another ultralight stick. Awesome combo por the price, to be honest at first I bought it only because I liked the design and already had some berkley accessories that have been pretty reliable so far, after the first fishing trip I can tell it works pretty good and the drag is smooth

Honestly, it's not that great... it feels cheap, and the rod only has 5 guides. I'd buy a daiwa revros combo for a little more if I had to do it again. So what if you have to spool your own line - man up!
