  • Not for anything other than dowels
Style: Mini Miter Cut-Off Chop Saw
I bought this with the idea to use it with my small home decor projects. Nothing fits in the groove but smaller sized dowel rods. Or a piece of wood no larger than maybe 1/2in. Would not cut through a 8in chunky slate because it was to big to fit both in height and thickness.

  • Not as described

Did not receive the additional cutting blades as advertised. Works for it's intended purpose, not sure how long....

  • Inexpensive saw for crafting and hobby work
Style: Mini Miter Cut-Off Chop Saw
I'm a sucker for nifty tools and this one is no exception. It's a bench top cut-off saw intended for making precision miter cuts up to 45 degrees in long stock up to 1/2" and is mainly useful for hobby and modeling work. The saw clamps to a bench top with included clamp (up to 1 3/4" thick) or can be screwed down. The vise is easily adjustable for angle and tension, and has a horizontal groove toward the upper edge to hold rod stock securely in place. It comes with a clamp, a spare belt, hex keys to change the blades, a 100T high speed saw blade (preinstalled) for cutting soft materials like wood and plastic and 5 cutoff wheels for cutting harder metals and fiberglass. Instructions are terse as is typical of tools at the low end of the price scale. The product listing says 7800 RPM but the instructions say 6000. Product photos imply it might come with a spare belt but the belt was preinstalled on mine and there was no spare. My saw arrived in a somewhat squished box with a torn strain relief on the power cord but otherwise was no worse for wear. The miter gauge actually adjusts a bit beyond zero and 45 marks. There are no stops or detents so you'll need to carefully align the vise. For zero and 45 degree cuts you can align the miter block with the raised edges on the base but for other angles you're on your own. In addition to small rod and rectangular stock, it's also possible to cut odd shaped objects (e.g., screws) but you might need to get creative if you're trying to cut something that doesn't fit neatly into the vise. There is a safety interlock that keeps the saw from descending until you push it in. Other reviewers found it annoying but I don't. One thing I *do* find annoying is that there's no way to lock the saw in the down position for packing and/or safety. I ended up using a small bungee cord to keep it closed. The issues were minor and all in all it's not too bad as a hobby saw and at $66 (current price on Amazon) it won't break the bank. ... show more

  • Great for certain things
Style: Mini Miter Cut-Off Chop Saw
While this isn’t the highest power saw by any means, it does the trick sawing the smallest items. They claim 1/2” cutting depth, but I found it’s a bit shy of that when cutting through 1/2” aluminum tubing. Had to really wrestle with trying to hold the arbor still to change blades, but finally found a smaller hole on the underside near the handle that I jammed one of the two included allen wrenches into, and that seemed to keep the shaft from turning enough to switch blades. The motor is pretty weak, so taking your time is very important. Safety-wise, there is a nice interlock that prevents (hopefully) sawing your fingers off. All in all, an interesting and occasionally useful item to have around the shop. ... show more

  • Hobby saw for small pieces of wood, metal or plastic
Style: Mini Miter Cut-Off Chop Saw
The media could not be loaded. This is great for small hobby type projects. Think on the order of cutting small pieces of wood for making ships in a bottle or cutting off the end of pvc pipe or shorting a bolt that’s too long. The motor feels powerful for being so small. It has a on/off switch and a safety button lock/release. A small clamp to hold the material in place. Comes with extra brushes, one saw blade and five cut off wheels. It has two holes in the base so it can be screwed down to your work table. It has very basic functions and is not complicated to use. Much of this is made of plastic and I doubt it it will last for years and years but all in all it should work well on those small jobs. ... show more

  • Ok little saw. Not a power house, but works ok.
Style: Mini Miter Cut-Off Chop Saw
This is not a high powered or fast spinning micro cutoff saw. It does work, but bogs easily when applying pressure. I used this to cut through thin aluminum tile edging and it worked, but definitely struggled a bit. Also, you need a support for the other side of the blade for the item you're cutting. Without it, it struggles even more. With an added brace and taking your time, this worked well. A little pricey for the power offered, but Im not upset I got it. I will find more uses for it im sure. ... show more

  • An upgrade from a Dremel, good for a hobbyist
Style: Mini Miter Cut-Off Chop Saw
In general, I like it. It's great for trimming screws/bolts and other little metal things to length that I used to use a dremel for. The metal blade that it comes with is probably meant for soft things like wood and plastic because it stalled when I tried to cut a screw. The abrasive cutoff discs work great for that though. I imagine this would be a really handy saw for someone into model making. One note: the saw comes with a weird plastic bit attached to the trigger that stops the saw from going down unless you are pressing the trigger. I don't know if this is supposed to be a safety feature or what, but it was annoying so I snipped it off with a pair of scissors. ... show more

  • The perfect bench-top miter saw for the prototype model builder.
Style: Mini Miter Cut-Off Chop Saw
This mini miter chop saw is small but powerful. With the proper cutting wheel, it will cut metal, plastic, PVC, wood, even glass. It’s accurate and you get the same cuts time after time. The cuts are so smooth that little filing or sanding is needed. In most cases, with a little practice, the cuts will require no filing or sanding to smooth out rough edged cuts. They designed this saw for the craftsperson and is well worth $57.99. This is an awesome tool, but no tool is ever perfect. I would have to see them design a direct drive version of this saw. This version is belt driven using a flat belt much like the ones you might find in a vacuum cleaner. If you get too aggressive with the saw, the belt will slip and burn. Although replacing the belt is a simple, 5-minute job, burning up a belt can become a real pain if you don’t have a spare to replace it with. I believe in being proactive, so I’m ordering a half-dozen belts just to have them on hand if needed. ... show more
