It doesn't set off alarms. Unfortunately our world is a sad state. All belts must still be removed and inspected as some belts are available with integrated hidden "tools", this one is just a plain belt but one cannot avoid removing belt for security.

Are you tired of having to take off your belt every time you go through the airport security checkpoint or rolling the dice on whether it is going to set off the TSA Pre-check screening this time? If the answer is yes, then the Beep Free belt is for you. The buckle is plastic, so it will not set off any metal detectors and there are no metal snaps on the bel itself. It only comes in a gloss black finish regardless if you get the black belt or the brown one. Some reviewers have mentioned that the buckle is fragile and breaks, but I have owned the same belt and never had the buckle break in five years. I only purchased this one because my waist size went down significantly. The leather belt is thick and sturdy and finish didn’t flake, crack or peel on the previous one that I owned and I don’t think this one will either. The fit is perfect. Just take a look at the measuring instructions before you make your size selection. I have used this belt both domestically and internationally and never have I had to take it off or cause a detector to go off. Definitely worth not having to worry about your belt when there are so many other things like your shoes, electronics, toiletries, keys, wallet, watch. . . One thing to note is that the styling and width of the belt, to me, looks like a jeans belt, not a dress belt. When you use this on dress pants or khakis, the belt will fill the height of the loops. Not that it looks bad, but just not as nice as your nicely stitched narrow belts with the shiny buckle. I used to feel a bit self-conscious when on business trips, but nobody has said anything to me, so I’ve pretty much left my dress belt at home on business trips, saving space and weight. There is another company out there that does make metal free belts that look like nice dress belts, but they are about 2 -3x more expensive than this one and use carbon fiber for their buckle. To me event this belt is a bit on the expensive side considering what it is made of and compared to the workmanship on dress belts that are price about the same. But, they have limited competition out there right now and the convenience of breezing through security as fast as possible has made the price palatable. If you are frequent traveler and just want to have to not deal with one more thing whether normal security or even TSA Pre-check, I would recommend this belt. For those that don’t travel much, think about how else you might use this belt. Do you go through government building often, go to sporting events or concerts, or even some amusement parks that have metal detector, then this might save you time and frustration and be work.

The belt is a bit low quality for the price. The exterior crinkles almost immediately, and there was some sort of surface defect on the one I received. The buckle itself is solid, and the belt is easy to use, it's just a bit rough in terms of the presentation.

I was using metal belt buckles for years as its all that's sold and every once in a while I'd notice a considerably annoying itch or rash from the metals, its unbelievably hard to find a leather belt without a cheap metal composite buckle as you'll often find its degrees and chips its composite metal layers off into your skin, I am not gentle with this as I think a belt needs to be able to hold up to heavy abuse, and it does really well. I did not want to mess around with finding a pure brass or other metal buckle as I simply wont trust the product build.

I bought this to speed up the process and reduce stress at TSA checkpoints. I'm a 30"-31" waist and bought the 34" belt and its a perfect fit. I saw another review that said they run a little short, which they appear to do. Using that guidance, I ended up with a perfect fit. The belt actually looks nicer than I thought. I figured it would look a little rough and I'd only wear it on travel days, but I tested it out at the office for a few days prior to my most recent trip and it looks fine/normal, with the added benefit of no metal buckle clanking around. I have TSA Pre-Check, so this worked flawlessly for my outbound flight from the US, but I flew home from Vancouver,BC, and they made me take it off leaving that airport because even the plastic belt would be picked up by full-body scanner and they would need to check I wasn't trying to obscure something. Not sure if that would be the case if flying domestically with Pre-Check. Overall, for the price, I've very satisfied.
