Burr comb on the top of hive frames is always a little bit annoying and most beekeepers like to remove it to try and discourage the bees from wasting their time making it. We usually scrape it off with a tool and then remove the frame for inspection or vice versa. There are probably as many ways to do this as there are beekeepers, but this combination tool that lets you scrape off the burr comb with the sharp end and then easily grasp the frame with the clamp side to lift it out of the hive for a looksee. One problem with the product I've noticed is that since only one hinge has a spring on it, there is a tendency for the mechanism to torque the non-spring loaded hinge making the mechanism stick sometimes. Doesn't make it unusable and a little WD-40 helps, but an additional spring on the other hinge would have fixed that problem. Overall, a good product and combining tools means one less thing to carry around on a hot summer day while you're visiting the honeybees!

They are lightweight and yet sturdy. The springs pop them back open when the handles are released. If they are squeezed fully closed the handles stay in that position by a friction hold. Stainless steel and easy to clean.
