Cut to the chase… yes, I’d get this again, it’s a well made kit. The pieces are coated in beeswax. It feels like a high quality assembly. DETAILS If you have trouble assembling things or don’t like to do it, this kit is not for you. I am very hands on and mechanically inclined and it took me about 30 minutes to unpack, sort and label the like pieces, and study the somewhat cryptic assembly instructions. Once I invested that time to get oriented and comfortable with what needed to be done, it was not hard. REQUIRED TOOLS Rubber mallet #2 Philips screwdriver Light hammer, 10oz suggested Patience, this will take several hours to assemble SUGGESTED TOOLS Light corner clamps (to square up frames when assembling them - see pic) Wood chisel (or sharp knife to clean up / adjust a dovetail joint to fit, if needed) Spare 2x4” about 8” long (pound dovetail joints together evenly to avoid damaging the boards and avoid splitting the wood) The wax coating helps the dovetails go together smoothly, but be sure to hammer them evenly across the full edge or you will split the board. If you have a dovetail that is not fitting, it may not be cut well. I had this happen with one and I split the board because the dovetail was cut too wide. I used some exterior grade wood glue to repair the split and a sharp knife to adjust the joint. Assembling the 30 frames was indeed tedious. Properly fitting the frame around the center board was tricky to get it in the top and bottom slots. Make sure it can slide with some play before nailing it together. Nailing the four corners is stressful on the frame so I used small corner clamps to hold it perfectly square while I hammered the nails. . The screws for the front door twist locks and the opaque viewing windows went in easily with no drilling or splitting. There are lots of pieces and assembly time required. Know this going in, be patient and you will be rewarded with a fantastic bee hive.

This is my third hive and by far the coolest. The first one was gifted to me - weathered and hand painted on the outside with funky designs - - after the first year I was so enjoying having bees that I purscased another one brand new which came already assembled. This spring coming will be my third year keeping bees and my third hive. I am especially excited about this one because it has a viewing window! It will be fun to be able to checkin on the activity more often without having to disturb the bees. I have a friend coming over to help me put it together - I don't imagine it will be too difficult but projects like that are not my favorite pass time. It's a high quality beautiful hive with all the pieces you need to have a colony move right in .

This bee hive takes quite some time to install and hammer into place all the myriad of little pieces but overall the final product came out decent. I like the cutouts that enable me to see the inside and the metal top helps with the longevity over time. Overall I am impressed with this bee hive kit.

Bees are a critical part of our food sources and crops. I'm new to beekeeping but this set is a great start for me. Kit is great, nice quality. The wood panels are dovetailed to assemble securely and solidly in place. Unit has a transparent window as well.
