For some background info, this is the first mattress I've ever bought, and I've been sleeping on it for about a month. After going in-person to a few mattress outlets, it seems I'm more likely to enjoy a mid-to-firmer bed. I'm sort of a side sleeper, sort of a belly sleeper (my hips and stomach are usually on the bed, and my upper body is usually on its side). I bought the black full 12 inch gel size. The unpacking process was fairly simple, but it DOES unroll with the top of the mattress facing down. I was alone and managed to haul this thing around but it IS heavy. The straps on the sides of the bed actually did help quite a bit in this aspect. I really like this mattress. I knew I wanted a hybrid because they give you that firm innerspring base, but they often have a softer memory foam or pillow top that you can sink into. This mattress provides that. The top portion has just enough give that you sink into it, but you can only sink down so far until the firmer part of the bed shows up. That isn't to say you suddenly crush into a flat board, but more like the further into the mattress you go, the firmer it is. Though I can't really judge the cooling gel aspect because I'm not familiar with it, or how to identify if it's there, all I can really go off of is my experience. I'm the type of person that tends to run a little warm, and on a previous regular mattress sometimes I would wake up and be surrounded by overheated. Personally, I find that sort of feeling comfortable in the winter, but it is a problem in the summer. Since getting this mattress I haven't experienced that. I'm sure doubling up on blankets in the winter will solve that for me, and I anticipate it'll be an awesome boon during the summer. The corners may not look like they have fully extended just due to the packaging method, but where the top actually ends, my mattress tops out at about 11.5"- I actually slept on my mattress same day so I'm not sure if that's affected anything. Most online resources actually note your body heat may aid in this process? I haven't noticed any sinking issues. I slept on one end of the bed for two weeks, and have been sleeping on the other end these past two weeks. I worried about this a lot, because in my inexperience, the bed would retain my shape a little when I would get in and out of it frequently/for long periods of time. After being out of it for a few hours, it's back to normal. I only had one minor problem- the way the bed was packaged has left sort of a roll in the middle of the mattress, for lack of a better term. Look- I'm a 22 year old college student. I can deal with a roll. It doesn't affect my sleep, and it's diminished with a little time, but it's there. It's easier to feel than see, the rest of the bed is fairly flat and then in the middle there is a small hill/divot situation. That's my second picture. Like I said, it's not very visible. 3 month update: Roll is gone, as far as I can tell. I've kept rotating where I sleep on it because it's sort of fun for me and my setup is flexible. I spend a lot of time in bed because I don't have a desk chair and use my computer from it, still haven't experienced sagging. Still love this bed! 12 month update: I was studying abroad for about 4 months, so this is about 8 months of active use, but I have to say: I still really love this bed. This review is for the BedStory 12 Inch Gel Hybrid Mattress Queen, Black Luxury Spring Mattress version , I was not real comfortable buying a mattress on line its a gamble and returning it a real hassle. I alsmost bout the more firm version but now I am glad I bout this med firm version . It is perfect blend between firm and soft , in fact it is both as strange as that sounds , the top part is comfy soft and springs back quickly , below that is a med firm feeling that provides the correct support with out being rock hard . My old matress a signature sleep pillow top was a literal pain in the neck , I most always wok up in the morning in pain , but with this Bedstory luxury matress I am sleeping more sound , pain free , and get to sleep much faster . Delivery was flawless and unpacking was painless . At 100lbs this is no lightweight mattress so The handles on the mattress really help . I got the Twin 12" gel infused one, that after 3 days and a good shake plumped to 12.5 fat inches! ♥_♥ I'm a young lean guy, 5'11" and 150 lbs who works retail with concrete floors. My sore back and hips got some much needed relief after about 2 weeks of sleeping on it!! I noticed I fall asleep pretty quickly. It accommodates to your body, adjusts to your weight and plumps back up to support you. It's not firm hard, sort of medium plushy with the pillow-top and firmer below it. It feels like your body is completely straight and aligned when you sleep on it. It has cotton handles, and I can fairly easily move it by myself. I’ll update this review in a month but here is my review after 1 night of sleep. The box was damaged but whatever, it’s an 85 lb mattress in a cardboard box. Two male roommates had to carry it in together. I got home from work and nobody was home and I’m impatient and also stupid so I removed the cardboard and dragged the wrapped mattress up the stairs to my bedroom. I almost passed out and I also had an asthma attack so I’d strongly recommend someone helping you. It didn’t smell strong like other people mentioned but also everyone has different sensitivities to smells. It says to wait 48-72 hours before laying on it to allow it to expand all the way but it was fully expanded after 24 hours. I measured it and it was legitimate. I’m assuming the time it takes to expand would be dependent on how long it’s been shrink wrapped. The picture I included is the bed story mattress on my bed and my old mattress on the floor, which my dog is laying on because she probably thinks it’s her new dog bed lol. When she finally jumped up onto the new mattress she immediately laid down and looked so content. I think she likes the memory foam. Comfort: It is a very firm bed, but I knew this. I purposely sought out a firm mattress since I am a side and stomach sleeper and I read that those types of sleepers need a firmer mattress. However, the top is memory foam and so while it is firm it is also like sleeping on a cloud because your body sinks in a little. It is a little difficult to get out of this bed but I think that’s the standard experience of a memory foam mattress. Temperature: It’s summer and my room gets exceptionally hot, so the lowest temperature my room gets is 75. The struggle is real y’all. I do have cooler sheets that I got at Target at the beginning of the summer, I don’t remember the brand but they were specifically to keep your body cool. So, that does help but I will say that I slept more comfortably last night temperature wise and I do believe that the mattress had something to do with it. It doesn’t feel cool or warm, just comfortable. Sleep quality: I fell asleep in under 10 minutes and I slept like I was dead. If it wasn’t for my roommates coming into the house drunk and singing, causing my dog to turn into an excited banshee from hell, I would have slept through the entire night. How my body feels after one night of sleeping: Ive been waking up sore before I got this bed so it’s not gonna change overnight. I think it’s because I’ve been sleeping on an old spring mattress for the last 5 years, and I got the mattress used so who knows how old that mattress was. I play on my phone with my head propped up so I get neck pain. What I did notice immediately is that on my old mattress if I played on my phone while lying on my stomach and a pillow propped up under my chin my lower back would hurt like hell within 30 seconds. Right now I am typing this while on my stomach and my lower back hurt after 10 minutes. So, to me that’s a positive. I’ll update this review in a month to let y’all know how it holds up and how my body feels. Long story short, I recommend this mattress. No, I didn’t get paid to write this review, and nobody asked me to write a review. This is my gift to you all. When I decided to get a new mattress (aka impulse buy in the middle of the night because I couldn’t sleep) I found that so many websites mentioned that they received compensation for reviews. I’m a skeptic and I do know that marketing/advertising is so subtle that you don’t even notice it. On Amazon, when searching through different brands of boxed mattresses it seems that the more positive reviews always get shown first, and some reviews are “received x for free to give an honest review” which we all know isn’t really honest. I found it frustrating to find a genuine review. I had to change the reviews to “most recent reviews” and then I got a better idea as to how positive customer experiences were in the last few weeks. When I did that I found so many boxed mattress companies were not responsive to customers, had false advertising (mattress height inches off), ripped mattresses, their mattresses didn’t even show up. Some people would comment and say “I wish I took the negative reviews seriously before buying this”. So, I didn’t buy those mattresses obviously. From the one day I have had this mattress, I would recommend it. I’ll update this review in a month and let y’all know if I still recommend it. Update: I still recommend it. The memory foam is slightly depressed from my body but it’s barely noticeable and I have been sleeping soundly through the night. For the price it is 100% worth it. ... show more
