This is my first "mattress in a box." It's been quite the delight so far! Delivery: It's a King-sized mattress in a box, so this was heavier than I thought. I saw the delivery driver have difficulty with it, so my son helped me bring it upstairs to the bedroom. The box had some tears in it, but that's to be expected with such a heavy item. Opening the mattress: Just unroll the mattress that is vacuum-sealed in plastic. Upon unrolling the mattress, i could hear a hissing sound. Be careful when cutting the plastic. I wasn't sure if the mattress would just pop open suddenly or slowly. The hissing is the mattress expanding, and it expanded fairly quickly. There was no smell. In less than 24 hours, it was ready to place on my boxsprings. It was the exact same size mattress as the King I replaced. Comfort: I knew when i ordered this mattress that it was extra firm. The mattress I replaced was much softer, yet it game me back aches. I'm glad I got the much firmer mattress. Despite the firmness, the top is soft and comfortable. It's not like lying on a piece of plywood. I've been sleeping on this mattress for two weeks now and I have not experienced any odors from the mattress, no issues with the memory foam, and no extra heat from all-night sleeping. Even my wife, who suffers from muscle/nerve pain found this mattress very comfortable. Final Thoughts: I guess if I had the time and inclination, I would take advantage of all those mattress companies that say, "Try it for xx days. If you don't like it, return it." I'm not sure how many people actually do that. I'm glad to say that I made the right choice the first time. I will try and update the wear and comfort of this mattress over time. $500 for a king bed in a cardboard box? You shouldn't expect much, and yet this mattress delivers. The description was correct - there is no odor. I was stunned. This is my first experience with a box bed, so maybe this is normal, but I was wowed by how the thing went from flat to fully inflated in 60 seconds. It sounded like it was being inflated, but you don't have to pump any air in. This is sturdy and really shockingly comfortable. it is not as firm as I prefer, which is why I only gave it a 4 for pain relief and sleep quality. There is a tiny whisper of an air mattress about it, but that is 98% gone once you give it a couple days to settle. If you're looking for a reasonably priced king-sized mattress that won't give you back problems, look no further. ... show more
