I've had the topper 5 days now and I really like it. I came out of the box like a big sausage and had a cutter included that made it easy to open without risk of cutting the toper itself. You take the outer wrapper off, unroll and unfold it. It's vacuum packed it a big plastic bag. I cut the bottom of the bag off and pulled it out. I put it on my mattress and within a couple hours it had expanded to a little over 3 1/2 inches thick. It had a noticeable smell to it so I turned on a celling fan and left it for about 6 hours before I made my bed. I slept on it the first night and should have paid more attention to the instructions. The say to let it set 2 or 3 days before first use to let the smell dissipate. I pulled the covers and mattress pad off the second day and left the ceiling fan again all day. I slept on it the second night and noticed a little smell but it was not near as strong. After the third night I didn't notice any smell. I ordered the 4 inch topper. My neck is fused in two places, I've had several back surgeries and a hip replaced all of it due to arthritis. I bought an air number bed without any foam or pillow topping years ago so I could make it very firm. It worked fine to begin with but now my hips and shoulders are more sensitive and need a topper (I'm side sleeper.) I've tried 4 inch toppers from Costco but they were too soft and I had to take them back. I used a 1.5 in topper for a few years but lately it has not been enough. I thought I would give this 4 in topper a try because it had two grades of foam in it. This topper has worked very well for me. It's firmer than other toppers I've tried. It provides plenty of give for my shoulders and hips but the stiffer second layer supports my hips enough to keep my spine in line. I've increased the air pressure in the mattress so its very firm now so I get great back support from the mattress and the topper allows me to sleep comfortably on my side. Before this topper I was waking up every hour or so to switch sides because shoulder pain would wake me up. With this topper I can sleep through the night with out tossing and turning and wake up without sore shoulders or neck pain. ... show more

It took almost 2 weeks of airing out this mattress topper before the smell went away. Do not use without airing it out or it will make you and your sheets smell like chemicals. Otherwise it is comfortable and helped to make my mattress more firm

Exactly what I wanted. I unwrapped it and it didn’t seem to throw any strong smell which I thought was pretty awesome as most I’ve ever had before always smelled up a closed off bedroom with a window open for a day. It also puffed up pretty quickly after unwrapping, like maybe half an hour? I wasn’t patient, I was ready to get this thing on my bed and I’m lounged out on it right now. I’m obsessed. Exactly what I was searching for and I’m very much looking forward to a good nights sleep. My hips wouldn’t allow me to lay on one side for long before I was having to rotate like a rotisserie chicken constantly. I can already tell it’s going to help tremendously with pain. 10/10 would buy again! ... show more

Things in the mattress topper business have changed a lot in the past 3 years. I was looking for a new topper that was gel memory foam ventillated and this seemed like a goog fit. However, it does not have the cushy melt into comfort feel. I think many of the toppers today are really into "density" and they have many ways of calculating it and Not listing it in the topper information. This one is so dense that it does not support my back and if very uncomfortable. It also over-rides the air bed adjustments that I'm used to making. Select a number air beds allow you to adjust the mattress to support the low-back- this dense 3-inches of topper negates that effect. It is also too long and too wide for a queen and we had to cut it to fit the bed and are therefore are unable to return it. I realize bed comfort is very subjective, so if you need to prolong the life of a very saggy bed, this one might do the job. ... show more

Well this thing is huge haha. It hangs over a bit but once I put the sheets on it’s not too noticeable. It expanded the full 3 inches within hours which I’m glad it did because I was so excited to sleep on it that night. I used the firm supportive side and I really like it. It’s not hard at all. It’s supportive just like described. You still feel like your sleeping on foam because you do still get that squish, but you don’t sink or get stuck. It’s perfect to me. Just what I wanted and needed to help my dipping too soft mattress. Only wish it had a cover to go with but for now it’s great. UPDATE: I have been thoroughly enjoying this topper. As I mentioned in my previous review I’ve been sleeping on the supportive side. My sleep has improved so much and no more achy back and hips when I get up everyday. This has been such a great purchase for me. About to order my son one. I have shared this with all my close friends and family and told them to purchase.
