I like this shoe! I should have checked the reviews before ordering, because I would have sized down as so many said. I’m typically an 8.5 and bought the 9, because I have wide feet and it’s typically better to go up. But these have LOTS of room. Maybe even a little too long. But I like to wear them with thick ankle socks and they’re perfect if I’m on my feet all day and thus experience swelling in my feet and ankles by the end of the day. First, I would like to say these fit great - probably the most comfortable shoes of this type I have ever had - I have wide feet and often find that toe boxes are too shallow. Shoes of this type often feel clunky and heavy, but these fit great from the very first time I wore them. I have worn them on ice and found them to have fairly good traction and they are water resistant. BUT I am disappointed in how quickly the heels are showing significant wear. I have worn them probably 5 days a week since purchasing on 1/9/23, walking several miles most days. The "rubber" the heels are made of does feel softer than most, but I did not expect them to wear so quickly. I have not had this problem with other shoes, although I do wear out the heels eventually on most shoes. Please note that in the picture you can see where the darker outer layer has worn quickly to the lighter colored inner layer which is quite thin. If it weren't for this problem, these shoes would get 5 stars for me. As it is, I will probably need to replace them within a few months Edited to add: BEARPAW contacted me and offered to replace these for me or refund my money. I thought about it, but decided to keep them and use them as long as I can, simply because they are SO COMFORTABLE!! I really appreciate their offer and hope they will revise their heel/sole material, because I would love another pair! ... show more

After reading the reviews I decided to size down and I’m glad I did. For reference, I am most often wear a size 8.5 shoe. Depending on the brand and type of shoe I do size up and wear a 9 BUT after reading the reviews I sized down to an 8 and they fit. I also have narrow feet so these are somewhat wide, but would be a good fit for someone with wider feet. ... show more

The product description warned buyers to “size down.” I really appreciate that this was included! I was adding my own inserts, so I purchased my regular size. I’m glad that I did.

This is my 2nd pair of bearpaw hiking shoes and I also own bearpaw hiking boots. They are true to size, very comfortable and have sturdy tread. I would recommend these hiking shoes to anyone wanting light weight hikers.
