It comes with hardware so that you can screw it into the wall if you need to or you can simply use the sticky adhesive on the back, which is extremely sturdy. I put the large end on the bottom, and the rod pointing upward. It's been holding up really well, and I can easily tear off towels. This is inexpensive and does the trick, but beware: the adhesive is SUPER strong. I accidentally put it on slightly askew, and even though I hadn't pressed it to make full contact, it was impossible to move it. Be sure you're super careful when you apply it - once it makes contact it's there for good.
