  • The best I used
Real good piece of lens. No

  • Works and looks perfect.
Lens does everything it’s supposed to do and works great. Much better than the 60 - 200 mm lens I had. Have it on a Nikon D40.

  • Annoying shipping
Item ships via UPS but without the option to redirect. UPS didn't ring the doorbell first attempt, fortunately had a roommate able to accept the package the second delivery attempt. Package also looked like it had been drop kicked at some point so was expecting the lens to arrive broken, but the lens photographs nicely, good value for price, was a little dirty on arrival. Does not come in Nikon box, or with any additional manual info, but it is a "renewed" product. ... show more

  • Great lense, even for beginners
I used the lense for my son's HS graduation. We were seated in the bleachers, so we weren't very close. I was able to get some great photos with this lense. I'm definitely a novice and don't know a lot about photograohy, so it is very beginner friendly.

  • Telescopic lenses are useful regardless of skill level; beautiful bokeh
For all the reviews stating that "if you can't take a good picture with an 18-55 mm then it won't help to upgrade", I have to respond with: that is patently false. One of the only things that DSLRs are good for, in comparison to the 16MP smart phones of today, is the zoom feature and there are certain shots that you will never be able to get without a zoom. The way I look at it, these types of far seeing lenses are better than a pair of binoculars in most cases and you can also capture an excellent image of what you see at the same time! That is truly priceless, and nothing can replace the ability to take an image that would otherwise require you to be floating mid-air to get the same level of detail; maybe when jetpacks become available or quadcopter photography, but otherwise, it is impossible to get telescopic detail with a wide-angle lens, especially in places that you are not able to move closer in order to view. Additionally, the flattening effect of a telescopic photo is quite beautiful and this particular lens does produce a fantastic bokeh, as others have stated. I have attached three pictures which allow you to see the benefits of a telescopic lens. The first shows the bokeh in the lower left corner; the photo was taken at a cliff's edge. The other two demonstrate the detail of a full zoom which would otherwise have never been captured. ... show more

  • The best normal to tele zoom for a DX Nikon
The best normal to tele zoom for a DX Nikon. I hate zooms, I only use them when it is to troublesome to attach an older, sharper, all-manual Nikkor. There are times when a zoom is very handy, and this one is pretty darn sharp -- better then the 200mm model. The VR function can give you 3 extra shutter-speeds higher than w/o VR -- it really works. You can hand-hold this beast in decent light! One star deducted for the slowness of the AF. Forget using it for sports, unless you take the time to learn the right places to be, and anticipate the action (what you should do regardless!). For auto racing, pan-zooming, this isn't a good lens. Be very careful when the barrel is protruding way out. This is a cheaper, plasticy lens. You can break it by bumping into something hard zoomed all the way out! For $200-$250, a sharp lens! ... show more

  • LOVE this lens
Image quality is incredible, lightweight for its size, and zooms in far enough to take pretty clear pictures of the moon even (and stars!!!) The autofocus works very well (will just say that it does take a second for the focus to change if you're shifting the focus from something far to something close or vice versa, but with such a long lens that can be expected). I use it with my Nikon D3200 camera body and it is fully compatible. Another thing to expect with such a long lens is the corners of images are darker when taking fully zoomed in photos, but thats nothing the dodge tool in photoshop (or other editing programs) can't quickly fix. Included some pictures I've taken recently with this lens to show capabilities! ... show more

  • but am so glad I didn't
If you are on the fence, get it! I almost bought one of the cheaper lenses, but am so glad I didn't. The VR alone makes it worth it. It just arrived today and I pulled it out to start playing right away since I have a shoot this weekend. It appears brand new, with zero scuffs , dings, or scratches. Auto focus and manual work great. I attached some photos I snapped, all were taken with no tripod at the full 300mm zoom. I took them on manual focus to really test the vr. Only the last photo, the close up on my dogs face, was auto focus. I am beyond pleased with this purchase! Yes, its a little heavy, but it's a 300mm lens and definitely not a deal breaker. I'm really excited to get out and use this more. Great buy! ... show more
