  • BF4 Multiplayer is too much fun to pass up
Platform For Display: PC Download Edition: Standard
Once you get past any launch bugs and some frustrating crashing problems, the game is TONS of fun. Solo the game can be fun, but playing with a group of friends is when the game shines (talking about the Multiplayer). Coordinating tactics with squad mates and working together is soooo much FUN! Playing Obliteration game mode where your "mission" is to take a bomb that spawns in the middle and blow up the other team's objectives is easily the most fun I've ever had in a Battlefield game and probably up there in most fun experienced in a game. The epicness of moments when you and your buddies fight off some enemies for the bomb and escape on a jeep, jet ski or even a helicopter while everyone is shooting at you and stuff is exploding all around you is incomparable. The game looks really great. The landscapes are very pretty and the particle effects everywhere are really cool. Helicopters exploding is one of my favorite features. Every time I see a helicopter blow up I'm delighted. The way that they will spin out once destroyed is just plain awesome. It's a very cool effect! Single player looks really nice (other than some cutscenes that look like garbage) and the characters look like the actors portraying them. Michael Kennith Williams is pretty great, just like everything he's in. The campaign is short though, and not very memorable. Plenty of bugs, clipping, and crappy weapons. If you buy the game, don't buy it for anything other than the multiplayer. It alone is worth the money, the campaign is just extra stuff to do and a means to unlock some items for multiplayer. I played the beta which had it's fair share of bugs and even at launch there were some bugs but plenty of them have been ironed out and the dev team continues to work to fix them, releasing fixes in a fairly timely manner. If you love First Person Shooters and playing together with teammates is something you're not against, BF4 is a game you should definitely check out. ... show more

  • Great new addition to the Battlefield line.
Like my title says, this game has done a great job continuing the BF franchise, even though not much of it is new/groundbreaking material. So basically what's been said about BF4 is that is was just going to be BF3 on steroids. Well, I'd have to say it is, but then some. The campaign (which I've not been through) seems pretty well put together, everything looks very nice, and I haven't found any major flaws, but your role in the campaign seems to be continuously depressing, as everything goes wrong and everyone is dying... But hey, War is hell. The online multiplayer is very fun, and I love the sort of 'flashbacks' to BF2 I am feeling with the Commander function and VOIP etc. And while I do love Battlefield multiplayer, I have never really been partial to the large, vehicle dominating maps, as continues in this game, I find myself playing smaller maps and gamemodes such as Team DM and Rush. Leveling up seems pretty similar to BF3, as with unlocks and the sort, but there are some small differences,, mostly for the better. I loved that they added a custom emblem feature, and I frankly don't give a rat's *** who says they ripped it off from 'so and so', it's a good feature and add personality to your soldier. Customizing guns and your outfit is neat, and there seems to be quite a lot of new stuff, but I can't really delve into it much, as it is still pretty similar to BF3. The new graphics, aka Frostbite 3, seem to be pretty amazing, although I admit I do not play on Ultra, only on High, and I'd say are quite a step from Battlefield 3, but not exactly leaving it in the dust. In short, beautiful. General gameplay seems to be quite nice, and everything seems to operate smoother and swifter than BF3, and I like the feel of how things operate, like recoil for instance seems much nicer than the predecessor. All in all, if you like Battlefield games, and you don't mind buying a game that isn't hugely groundbreaking but is still very fun and has lots of play time, then go ahead and buy it. (Or wait a year and get it for cheaper) Just aside, don't buy the game and expect to play it on Ultra settings if you don't have a higher-end gaming computer. Also, when I installed the game and started it up, it recommended I go download the newest AMD driver, which I apparently didn't have. So just be aware of that. ... show more

  • Now that's what I call edgy
Platform For Display: PC Download Edition: Standard
Battlefield 4 is a great game. Even if Hardline is already out and BF1 is coming out relatively soon, I still feel like I need to express how cool this game is. So first, the Campaign mode. The campaign is a big letdown compared to the awesome campaigns of BF3 and the Bad Company games, and I wouldn't even recommend playing it unless you want the P90/M249 SAW which the game gives you at the end. It's short, buggy, and the only cool destruction you get to see is completely scripted. The enemies' AI is awful, and are not at all difficult (at least on Normal and Hard difficulties, I do not know about Veteran). I did think it was cool that you can get new weapons to use by getting more score in the campaign, and getting score by killing enemies is actually pretty fun. So overall, I did not like the Campaign mode very much, but I'm not gonna lie, I'm glad I played it because the P90 in Multiplayer is awesome. Now, for the gamemode that actually matters, Multiplayer. Multiplayer is great, and I do think it is better than BF3's multiplayer (at least now that most of the major bugs have been worked out). Weapon balance is good, and all of the gamemodes are fun whether you are alone or with friends. The only weapons I would consider to be a bit too strong are the shotguns, but hardly anyone uses them except for when you are in small TDM maps. Speaking of the maps, all of the maps are great! I've had hours and hours of fun on maps such as Operation Locker Dawnbreaker, and some of the DLC maps they are making free. If you miss some classic BF3 maps like Operation Metro and Operation Firestorm, you can get them in the DLC pack called Second Assault. Overall, they've done a good job fixing this game up and making it what it should have been at launch, and even if it has been 3 years since it's been released I would recommend this game.
