The old design had the charger control integrated into the housing of the panel. Impossible to lose, and convenient. The new design removes the controller and had it in it's own little case that plugs in between the cord from the panel and the cord of the battery connection. So if you're mounting the panel on the roof, now you'll have this little dongle flopping around somewhere else. And of course, you'll have to make sure it doesn't get separated from the panel. I’ve never had a problem with Deltron/Battery Tender products. This is no different. I’m using it to keep the battery charged on the Motorhome generator. Placed it on the roof. Could easily be permanently installed.

Purchased to keep RV batteries topped off. Thought it was doing it's job until I was checking an older solar panel. When checking older panel in direct sunlight I got 0 volts. To make sure my multimeter wasn't giving me a bad read I checked this solar panel expecting a reading. I got another 0 volt. Thinking my multimeter was broken I checked an older Battery Tender 5v panel...got 5.7volts on multimeter. 3 years is a very short time for a solar panel to die. I buy and pay more for Battery Tender products expecting higher quality. On this product they disappointed. ... show more
