  • Excellent. Nothing more required.
I purchased two books on bass theory. This one is far more superior. Well written, big bold print, easy to read, follow and apply. No need for anything else. Buy this and your good.

Scales are build from tetrachords, various combinations determine of tetracords determine types of scales and modes. All theory around tetrachords and (modes) and scales is missing in this publication.

  • Great strategy but ponderously poor decision on fingering diagrams
The author goes out of his way to buck tradition and places the fingerings position dots directly on the frets markers, not the space between the frets where your fingers would actually go. This isn’t just an unnecessary change to tradition, it actually doesn’t make sense since you don’t fret notes directly on the fret markers. It also mean that a student working through multiple books has to retrain their brain for this one book. This book is free on Kindle Unlimited and it still isn’t a book I can recommend for free, and yet I’d pay $20 for it if the author would redo the diagrams in the book following the conventional notation language that is both the way students have already learned fingering diagrams and also correctly reflects where your fingers go. I give this two stars instead of one because I think the book is well organized and with a revised edition with correct fingering notations could be a five star book. But reading a book in which the author explicitly states, “if you see the letter B it’s actually a P, and if you see a P it’s actually a T” is freakishly difficult if you’ve already learned how to read. Please consider a revision and I would gladly update my review. ... show more

  • Simple but direct
This book easily explains bass theory. Great book if you are struggling like I was. Now when I read the other books I bought, they make sense.
