  • Improved Groove Level
Format: Kindle
I love the historical background of all these great bassists. But what put me over the moon right after my favorite, Bernard Edwards. The man , Mark Adams of Slave. There I got into the minor blues and Dorian scales. I followed the instructions and played the grooves with attitude. Take the instructions in small bites and you will step up your groove level. Great Information for any level. ... show more

  • Modern
Format: Kindle
This is the only or one of the very few Funk manuals that actually contain some modern fresh funk, I have bought so many funk books and most of them are stuck in past, this one offers some modern stuff, on the down side I can side there are many tracks that are not so funky, but still I advice this book. ... show more

  • Great and unique
Format: Paperback
This is a great book! It isn't a book of note-for-note transcriptions of entire songs, so if that's what you're looking for this isn't the one. There are tons of those out there. This book is more unique. It gives an excellent history of funk bass, the major players, their styles and has a great listening list. The grooves will really introduce you to the vocabulary of funk that you can then incorporate into your own playing. ... show more

  • great resource
Format: Kindle
The book has a lot of info so it lasts a long time in terms of being a great resource. You get insight into certain types of riffs so that when you are listening and trying to catch what's going on in a song you get a better sense of it right away. Worthwhile if you want to get into this style of playing! ... show more

  • Get Into the Grooves... Literally.
Format: Paperback
The authors did a great job of presenting groove samples to add to your bits bag... I'm into 70s octave patterns, period, and you get a chunk in the book. Get it, you paid more for coffee this morning. Snicker.

  • Nice!
Format: Paperback
It's a good primer to start learning funk bass as an intermediate player. Four starts because the audio tracks were not linked to in the book and I had to reach out to the author via instagram message but he promptly responded and sent me a download link for the audio tracks.

  • Not exactly what I was looking for. This book is not 100 Funk Songs written out in sheet music.
Format: Paperback
I was expecting 100 songs written out note for note. That’s kinda what the title led me to believe. I was looking for a bunch of music with maybe a little text to explain stylistic nuances. Instead it is mostly text, explaining historical and technical context, with a handful of licks and exercises written out to make his points with actual musical context. And to be fair the information that is presented is helpful and well written, but it was a lot more of that than I expected. I think the title should be changed to something like “100 2-4 bar phrases that are used to try and encapsulate entire sub-genres of funk, with a lot of words to take up the rest of the 85 pages”. Or something like that. I think I’ve made my point. ... show more
