  • Tells you about the instrument, not much about playing it
This small book is literally an introduction to the bass guitar, not to how to play it. It describes the fingerboard, scales, etc. in detail. It is written in awkward English, but there is no difficulty understanding what it is saying. It will familiarize you with the instrument, perhaps, but it won't teach you to play. An absolute beginner with a studious attitude might find this book a good place to start. I didn't find it very useful. ... show more

It pretty much substitutes first year or two years of paying for a bass classes. After one year of practicing with this book you should be advanced enough to jump to more complex stuff such as playing along someone in the band (guitar or drums). ... show more
