  • Excellent algae remover.
I love this scraper. After reading all the reviews on the different scrapers, I just decided to take a chance on the API one because I trust this brand. I have used the scrapper and it removed the algae from my tank's glass very easily. The head of the scrapper has no sharp or hard edges to scratch the glass. The head of the scrapper is also large and thick so I think it will last me a long time. The handle is very sturdy, better than the handles on the scrappers I saw at my local Petsmart store. I also like the fact that the handle has a hanger on it so I can keep it handy by my aquarium. When this one wears out, I will replace it with the same brand. ... show more

  • Scratches Glass
The API Algae Scrapper is not worth a single penny. This scrapper easily scratches aquarium glass; acrylic, low iron glass, and regular glass. The concept behind this scraper is exactly what I need to remove algae build up and to keep the glass in pristine condition. However, the long-term effects and damage to the glass are not worth the temporary relief of algae. The pad is abrasive and is not made of good material. This scrapper claims to be extra long and extra strong; however, this is not the case. The handle is approximately 17 inches and even in my 55-gallon tank, my hand gets wet, which completely negates their advertisement of not getting your hand wet when using this product. I highly recommend using a magic eraser which the majority of are magnetic. This product also contains small traces of chemicals that are not safe for fish-algicides and antimicrobials. Even if it doesn't hurt your glass, it is not great for fish and the beneficial microfauna. Also, to take into consideration is the pad is not antibacterial or antifungal which creates a breeding ground of bacteria, disease, and illness for your fish. When using the scraper there is a high likelihood of sand, rocks, crushed coral, and gravel to get trapped and become encased within the pad. No matter how well you clean the pad or even try to pick out these pieces from the pad they won't come out because they become adhesive to the pad. ... show more

  • Life Saver!
I know alot of people feel this is junk. But i really do not know how i would clean the algae off the of my back aquarium wall, bottom of my tank. Or my white bubbler across the back of my tank without this scraper. This scraper is a life saver for me. Keeps my aquarium looking crystal clean. And i love that the handle is so long, I have a very deep tank. And when i drain water out i can use this without getting wet. And it even works to help me gently move some ornaments back to place in my 37 gallon fancy goldfish aquarium. So happy i did my research and purchased this product and have this in my aquarium maintenance arsenal. ... show more

  • A nice, solid scraper
I've tried other algae scrapers in the past and most of them had pretty flimsy handles. If I applied too much pressure, the handle would snap. I don't have that worry with this scraper. A very solid and thick handle, I've applied some heavy pressure to it for a few tough spots and it took care of them with ease. I found the key to keeping the algae under control is to clean the glass regularly. If you wait months, it gets so thick and tough, it's very hard to remove. Once you get the glass cleaned well, just maintain it every week or so, makes followup cleanings much easier. It's designed nice, very solid and it's a decent price, what's not to like about it. ... show more

  • Sturdy
It's got a consistent sturdiness so that you don't end up with just a single point that is trying to scrub. Describes the entire width of the sponge. And it's not just a sponge it's like a scotch-brite non-scratching thing. It holds a lot of water. Rotated a few times before pulling it up away from the tank ... show more

  • Great for removing stubborn algae
I have a 55 gallon tank and this does a very good job removing algae from the glass. I used to use one of the little magnet scrapers which releases the algae into the water rather than trap the algae. This scrapper will trap some of it making it easier to get out of the tank. It's also significantly larger so cleaning takes less time. ... show more

  • sturdy construction; reasonably priced; works well
I have two aquariums, a 49 gallon tank and a 10 gallon tank. The larger tank tends to accumulate more algae for some reason, and I needed a new algae scraper to replace an older one that was worn out. This scraper is large enough to work well with my bigger aquarium yet it is slender enough for usage with the smaller tank, too. Construction is good, and the price is about the same as similar scrapers at the local pet store. It works well for my purposes. ... show more

  • Works well on my fish tank.
The handle could be a little longer. I have a tall 50 gallon tank.
