  • Solid unit
Size: 1.45 Cu Ft Style: Deluxe
I'm giving this unit a 5-star rating as judged at its price point. Yes, there is more security available from a $1,500, 500-pound vault, but that wasn't going to work in my second floor installation. The unit arrived well packaged, and could be carried upstairs at about 50 pounds. It is installed in a closet, where I added a 3/4" sheet of plywood for support, and attached with 1/4-20 hex bolts. The front two floor screws are accessible to drilling and fastening, but the rear two holes are blocked by the lower shelf, which can be removed with nuts and screws. The shelf flanges are welded in, so the position of the shelves cannot be changed. The plywood was attached to the adjacent walls with angle brackets. The rear wall was screwed to the wall with #12 screws, since the studs weren't accessible. Green sticky back felt was added to the shelves so the contents wouldn't be stored metal on metal. Then comes the setup. You open it with the backup key, and install 4 AA batteries. I didn't use the no-name batteries supplied, I installed duracells. Then you program in your security code, which was straightforward. USE of the unit: I chose a 6-digit code, so i have to press those 6, plus # to operate the door. I turned off the beep with the supplied code entry. There is a small amount of play in the door such that it clunks slightly when using the keypad, which can be eliminated by holding your free hand lightly against the door. I would say it takes 5-10 seconds to open the vault, which could be good in ensuring you're awake and aware enough to perform a task before getting to the sensitive contents. About the unit: This is a step up from the "bargain" units, yet below the cost and work of a full up freestanding vault. The door is quite solid, though the sheet metal walls could still be cut through by a determined thief with a high-speed die grinder. The expectations are that the unit will (1) stop any unauthorized entry, especially by minors, (2) stop amateur thieves, e.g. drug addicts hastily looking for prescription drugs and loose items, and (3) seriously impede any serious thief. This installation could likely be pried loose with crowbars, or even cut apart, all of which would require more time, and making alot of noise. The unit's weight and size make it quite an awkward carry for anyone seeking stealth or haste. Accurately represented in the ad- a good unit. ... show more

  • Practical & Money well spent
Size: 0.36 Cu Ft Style: Compact
This safe works well and feels quite sturdy. If bolted down to a dresser or stud in a wall this safe would offer a medium to high level of personal item protection! I use it for 8k worth of precious metals, shotgun, .22lr, 9mm ammo and a few important cards. Only "issue" is the Width of the safe is about an inch smaller than stated to give the thick door room to close on the inside:) ... show more

  • Small, gets the job done. Worth the money.
I needed a small drawer safe and this one was the right dimensions. Also wanted a keypad without sound, this one also fit the bill. Not the sturdiest safe I've seen. Lid rattles a little bit but it stays shut when it's latched. Still sturdy enough to keep anyone out unless they're trying REALLY hard though. The plastic piece that covers the batteries inside the lid broke off the first time I tried to put it back on. Had to tape it back on, but the batteries stay in just fine. I would recommend this safe for someone that needs a safe place to store very small valuables or a small handgun or two. It's not perfect, but for the money and how well it fits in my drawer, I'm happy with my purchase. ... show more

  • A good handgun safe at a good price
Size: 0.15 Cu Ft Style: Drawer
Much better product than the slightly more expensive biometric quick access gun safes. While no gun safe is perfect, this safe focuses on safety features instead of cheap, low value tech. Watch a video on the fast biometric safes... I got one and a relatively intelligent 8 year old could crack it because the steel is so thin and there are large gaps in the metal. This is so much better and for less money ... show more

  • Quality Safe: Best internal/external demensions I could find for a drawer safe
There was not alot of options out there for a drawer safe that opened over the top and had the size specs I needed (both internally and externally) so I took a chance on this safe (I usually look for items with at least 25 reveiws and within the 4 star range at a minimum). I have been using it for 5 months now. I typically open it once or twice a day. And typically using the electronic key pad. I am still on my first set of batteries. While the the door does chew up a lot of space internally it is still very roomy inside. I can fit a medium sized handgun, spare pistol mags, a large wallet, knife, and keys without an issue (and still has some room to spare). A large full seized pistol should not be an issue. The electronic key pad works fine as well as the key lock. The external demensions will still fit in your average drawer. This safe will not fit standard size documents (8 1/2 by 11) in case anyone is curious. It is a sturdy piece. It has some weight to it. However I am using it in a soft close drawer and the weight has not been an issue. For a practical drawer safe with more space then most safes in this spectrum I'd say this is a quality buy. ... show more

  • First Safe
Size: 1.45 Cu Ft Style: Deluxe
Quality overall seems very good. Keypad seems well made. Can turn off beeps when hitting keys making entry to safe quiet. Handle is sturdy. Must use a hex key to open metal label to get to emergency key opening but not too time consuming. Programing code for lock was easy. Note that safe must be in upright position to open. I coded the lock with safe on its back and handle did not want to actuate. Sitting upright works great. Also note door opens 90 degrees, not past 90 degrees. Overall very pleased with safe. ... show more

  • Not really a safe, but a good strongbox.
Size: 1.2 Cu Ft Style: Standard
Perfect dimensions for my needs, but the steel is relatively thin and the unit is light. Not really good for storing valuables. However, good for storing general items (to avoid clutters, such as reloading components, electrical tools, etc.). In terms of value for money, I personally think it is somewhat overvalued (when compared to other safes). ... show more

  • Good value for the money.
Size: 0.36 Cu Ft Style: Compact
I'm very pleased with this little lock box. When I first opened it the lock was hanging up a little bit. I made a small adjustment and now it work great. Before a ordered it I read reviews about the lock not working right but ordered it any way glad I did. If you know how to turn a screwdriver you should be able to make this slight adjustment. ... show more
