Top Amazon Reviews

  • Not the most reliable but excellent for the price.
Color: White
I've seen a fair number of YouTube reviews for units like this and decided to grab a couple, this being one. This little guy has some good and some not-so-good, but considering it's only $30 for all the content it has, I can't give it a bad score. First off, the not-so-good: The screen on this thing is really small! I played a fair number of the Game Boy games on this console back when they were new, and even my old GBA has a bigger screen than this. Also, as other reviewers have mentioned, not all of the games work that well; A small percentage of the games will lock this console up and you'll have to power it off then back on to keep playing. I was a bit bummed that Golden Sun is one of such problem titles, but again, there's so many games on this console it's easy to find something else to play. Build quality is also a little sketchy. The volume roller is wobbly and it's resistance value isn't matched well to the console's circuit: It's either too loud or too quiet to my ears. The console's plastic enclosure feels a bit fragile in some places as well. Now onto the good: This little guy has one basic feature that nearly all stock Game Boys didn't have: A backlit screen! So nice to not have to constantly tilt the console to catch the best light angle for the screen. While I do gripe about the small screen, this console is just as portable as a Game Boy Advance SP, Game Boy Pocket, or a Game Boy Color. Finally, again, the price! This thing costs as much as some Game Boy Advance titles did back in the day! This is huge to me because as you may have gathered, I amassed a collection of Game Boys over the years and still have them. Even if I were to go to a local used game store (they're getting rare these days!) and splurge a couple hundred dollars on old Game Boy Advance cartridges, my library still wouldn't match what's in this console, and no cartridges are required. And once again, this cost the price of one single new Game Boy Advance game, like Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald back in their heydays. So yeah, physical quality is a bit shaky. Software quality between games is a bit spotty, and yes, the screen is small. But this gives you an enormous library packed into something you can drop in your pocket. And as someone who has never really gotten into smartphone/tablet gaming, I'd rather risk losing this while traveling around with it rather than one of my original Game Boys. So if you can spare $30 and like Game Boy Advance games, grab it, it's worth the price in the end as far as I'm concerned. One final note about the games: There is some filler/shovelware games here, as well as some....Oh, how would I describe them...... games that are "modified" by fans, such as Pokemon Quartz, a "modification" of Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald by someone that doesn't speak English as their first language. I don't find it alarming, nor do I consider it extra valid content but I felt it was worth a mention. ... show more

  • Nostalgia for me
Color: White
I have been enjoying these games. Bit of nostalgia for me. I enjoy them a bunch and introduce to my kids. This seems to be doing fine for power so far. I got a different style before and it worked for a short while then stopped after a week. This one seems to be doing alright for now. If that changes I will be sure to report. Otherwise thisfeels good for grip. Easy to use the buttons. The screen isafine aizeand the games atefun to play. Definitely has plenty to choose from. Entertaining :) I thought it only had 169 games. And was happy I saw one or two I had as a kid and a bunch I didn't buy but wanted. But then I realized the sd card was installed and has 1000 games on it and I'm very happy! Yes! I do wish the screen was bigger. But all about this is nostalgia. My kids love it and I do too. Just wish screen was a bit bigger and little bigger for grip. But still I want to get a second. So I can play and kids and we don't have to share lol Update! So I put the ad card in the computer and I was able to see there are actually 2000 some games. And was able to make it that the games I don't want the kids playing in a different folder! And the ones they can play are easy access and don't have to go through thousand games to find it. Much faster and quicker. Getting a second so no fights between the two kids. Love this ... show more

  • Value Is Outstanding, could use some a V2 with some improvements
Color: White
For the price, this is incredible, with some caveats. Pros: It's the only device in it's price range and form factor that has an SD slot to add/remove games. UI is good and included game selection very decent Battery life is excellent Build quality is better than expected Screen plenty bright Fairly comfortable given its small size Simple operation Games that work, work at least well enough to be enjoyable, most run very well. Cons: Quality control, mine has a spec of dust behind the screen that looks like 2-3 dead pixels Screen size, looks like it should be about 1/2" bigger than it is Emulation speed, not everything feels like it runs full speed, suspect this is a 30hz panel and not 60hz Some games don't work and crash the system and others feel like they're not running full speed as noted above Only GBA games, having GB/GBC would be a huge value add, couldn't add SNES without more buttons though Overall 4/5, definitely worth it for the money. Would love to see a V2 of this with a larger screen by about 1/2", maybe a tad thinner for pocketability, GB/GBC game support, I'd even be ok if it kept the lower speed emulation/screen if the price point stayed at/under $40. ... show more

  • Not a bad GBA emulator
Color: White
It isn't bad if you know what it is. It's basically a gameboy advance emulator. It can emulate other systems (NES, SNES, SMS), but the tiny screen just doesn't have enough pixels to make text readable. As a tiny GBA emulator for the price though, it's pretty nifty. Platformers and and RPGs are pretty spot on (3d games do have quite a bit of slowdown though), and sideloading games is easy. The device has a nice retro feel to it, battery life is decent, and in game saves work. If you're looking for a handheld that will handle a bunch of different systems and upscale resolution, save your sockets for something better. But if you just want a little device to bang out some Super Mario or Pokemon, it's not a bad choice. ... show more
