These are great for mounting trail cams. So much so, that I came back to pick up a second 3-pack. Forget those dumb straps! However, the plastic tightening nut is complete garbage. I lost one right out of the gate and chalked it up ask a fluke. I was pretty gentle with the others and didn’t have any other immediate issues. Fast forward a year and I go to deploy my trail cams again for the upcoming hunting season, and by practically just looking at them, caused the plastic nut to break. Three mounts in a row, the ever slightest pressure caused the nuts to split in half. I couldn’t even get it tight enough to keep the cam from flopping down. Superglue didn’t help one bit. I haven’t tried gorilla glue yet though. I’m basically left with a tiny little metal nub that’s impossible to tighten by hand. Unfortunately, that $0.25 piece ruins an overall good product. Even if it doesn’t break on you right away, it’ll quickly become brittle from being out in the elements and fail sooner rather than later. My recommendation would be to either cover it with a coat (or three) of quality epoxy, or replace it right away with a new metal wing nut or something from the hardware store. My only other observation is that the metal ball and smaller hex set screw can rust pretty quickly. On the second set of mounts that I installed a little while after the first, and after observing the rust forming on the first set, I applied some gun CLP (cleaner, lube, protectant) to those areas. So far, they’ve held up much better to the rust than then first set. I’d presume that a coating of something even thicker like a lithium grease, would keep them protected for quite a while and need fewer applications.
