  • Amazing kit
I did a lot of research and decided on this kit. All parts were in the kit and really high quality. The install went without a hitch. I did watch dozens of YouTube videos for help. The hardest part was taking of my old bottom bracket. It would be great if the kit added the wrench to do that. I had to buy the wrench and another socket to remove my old stuff. I have only put about 50 miles on this motor so far, but so far so good. The brakes handles work great disengaging the motor when pressed. The kit doesn’t come with the gear sensor, so I bought that separately. I recommend buying one as it disengages the motor when you change gears. This motor makes going uphills very easy. I love going up a hill at19 mph. It makes riding my old 2004 Gary Fisher Tasahara fun again. I have been up to 31 mph down hills. That is fast enough. I good cruising speed is about 20 on flat ground. I got the 46 tooth front sprocket so that it is better for trail riding and not max speed for commuting. My 27 speed bike is now a 9 speed but that is fine. I’ve only ridden on the road so far, as winter weather set in, but it is plenty fast enough. Also, don’t think you have to have disk brakes. I don’t have them and can stop fine. I look forward to riding some trails in the spring. Hopefully, this motor will hold up for a long time. As far as this seller goes, I was surprised at how fast this was shipped to me. I think I received it only 4 or 5 days after I placed the order and it was well packed in a really small box. At first, I thought there was no way the whole kit could be in there, but everything was and in good shape. Highly recommend this seller. Great kit! ... show more

  • Well worth it
Color: 500C color display Size: 44T & 17.5Ah Touring rack Battery
(EDIT 8/2/2020: The photos display in a different order than loaded. Photos 8, 9, and 10 that I refer to appear for me as the 1st, 6th, and 4th.) In summary, the kit (and battery) arrived quickly, was complete and relatively easy to install, the customer service was excellent, and the bike (Trek 3500 MTB) is great -- I'm exploring everywhere now that hills and distance are no concern. I bought the BAFANG BBS02B 48V 750W 44T Mid Drive kit with the 17.5Ah battery and 500C color display and thumb throttle from Junstar. I chose Junstar because of the positive reviews for customer service. There are many factors to consider when choosing a kit configuration (type of motor and battery and display, programmibility, your bike's frame size, tires, brakes...it is well worth researching thoroughly. I will note just one factor: I chose the big battery because I wanted the range. However, for any size battery, if you ride on any rough road (let alone trails), I would recommend the rack mount. Batteries are very heavy. The hardest part of the installation was deciding how to tie up the extra wiring. The pictures show my approach. My rear brake is a Shimano V-Brake which incorporates the rear shifters so I could not use the kit's brake lever. I removed the switch from the kit's brake and glued it along with a spacer (photo 8) that activates the switch. (The vendor sells a magnetic switch alternative.) I did not like the default programming. You'll need the separate programming cable to make changes. There is a lot of discussion about configurations on the Web. The process was easy and went well. However, the throttle was very jerky. Per suggestions from the Web for a different setting, I tried but couldn't get the cable to work a second time. I tried a different PC as well as a different OS but no luck. Millie at Junstar sent me a new cable and that one did work fine. I've made a couple of throttle tweaks, which helped a little, but I rarely use the throttle. The throttle is basically either on or off. There's a slight ramp up but it's nothing like a motorcycle control. The PAS (pedal assist) works for me: I'm always in a low enough gear that my cadence is normal or higher (protects the motor) and I set the assist level to the amount of effort I want to expend. PAS doesn't work the way you first expect it to -- you'll see plenty of comments on the Web about that -- but then you learn that it does work the way you want it to. Lessons I learned: - The left and right crank arms come in differently colored packaging. However, I didn't pay attention when installing and -- natch -- got them reversed. - Going over some rough railroad tracks, the rear rack wrenched free from the horizontal mounting rods and the battery and rack fell dragging behind me. Luckily, the only damage was the scraped rack. I added hose clamps (photo 9) so that the mounts can't slide. - I was halfway up a steep trail when my motor stopped working. I feared that I had burned it out, and I headed back, hoping that it would work again after some cooling. At the bottom and still no motor, I noticed that the connector to the display was slightly ajar. Reinserting the connector was all that was needed. (The dead display was the obvious but overlooked clue.) I added an extra zip tie (photo 10) for that connection. My only wishes would be a more nuanced throttle control; and a blinking option for the headlight and taillight for daytime riding. Otherwise, I'm super pleased. ... show more

  • Shipping was fast, install straight forward, and what a kick in the pants it delivers!
Color: B750C color display Size: 44T & 17.5Ah Down tube Battery
Ordered on a Sunday, got the motor kit on Thursday, and the battery on Saturday. Wasn't expecting the kit so soon, and had to scramble to order the needed tools to complete the install. The install was pretty straight forward as well, I need to finish up some cable management with better routing, more zip ties, etc. The battery seems to be the weakest part - cheap plastic case, and the mounting tray is plastic and pot metal. I had to drill mounting holes in the mount to match the existing water bottle mounting holes on my Trek 4500. Given the weight of the battery (17.5 AH), I am a little concerned how it will hold up - time will tell. The included battery charger seems equally cheaply made, but isn't exposed to the abuse like the battery will be on a mountain bike. Still learning how the whole setup works, but it sure delivers smiles! I have taken it for only a few short rides, and it has plenty of power to really get you going. In the Trek's low gear, it allows me to climb hills that I otherwise wouldn't be able to. Battery seems to have LOTS of capacity, it's going to take me a good number of hours of riding to wear it down it appears. Need to upgrade the brakes now as I get to places where I need them! Update 9/1/20 - I have taken the bike on a few urban trail rides here in Colorado Springs, and wow - 750W is awesome to have on tap (will peak over 1000W if needed), and the 17.5AH battery might be too much - I can barely make a dent in the capacity! Rode probably 20 miles today over a couple of hours, and the battery is still nearly full. And I wasn't shy about using the throttle. I got off it a few times to check the motor temp, and it never got more than just warm. ... show more
