GT Aggressor pro, 750W bbs02, 44T chainring. Battery is cheap 10ah 48V pack. This combo get's me over 35mph, and in 1st gear, gets my 200+lb's up very steep hills with minimal pedaling. I just took this up a very steep trail to the top of a mountain (couple hundred vertical feet of all rock). The motor did excellent, and the battery was barely tapped (although I pedal quite a bit). The motor is great to help you through tough spots where fatigue may force you to demount and walk it. I'm blown away. This was my dream as a kid to have a motor on a bike, but batteries were not there yet. It makes me laugh that a tiny little battery/motor can do so much. The kit itself requires bike knowledge to remove cranks/Bottom bracket (does not come with crank tool), and I did have to pay someone at Dicks to remove the bottom bracket (gave him $20). I also used hose clamps to further secure the motor (One around the frame, then a large one around the motor). I feel that this secures it a bit more. I would recommend you get used to working on your bike and checking over it prior to every ride. This is not a "set it and forget it" hobby. You have to enjoy playing around with wiring, modifying, and maintaining a mountain bike. HOWEVER, you will get a much more enjoyable experience for way less money doing it this way (versus spending $2,000+ on a pre-made bike). I have health issues, so having a motor helps me to get out and enjoy riding again. When people make stupid comments about "cheating", I advise them I could be home on the couch in my condition....and that instead, I was just able to do 20 miles. They quickly stop judging. They could just be jealous! Again, not for people who do not have tools and some mechanical skills. You have to be willing to spend 15 minutes every few rides tightening and checking various components. The Kit and wiring are VERY high quality. I 100% recommend 2 things though: #1 Shift sensor to cut power during shifts (otherwise you can easily break chains). #2 programming cable (the stock settings are not great for pedal assist). After programming, the bike is so much fun. You can add throttle to any PAS level, and you can set pedal assist to GRADUALLY ramp up electric current rather than slam you with power. Both are about $20 and you should just order them with the kit. The programming cable required a bit of playing around on my laptop to figure out. If you are near NYC, you probably know where this pic was taken...and yes, the motor and battery survived flying down yellow trail.

I’ve been looking for a good E bike at an affordable price for a long time. I knew I did not want a hub drive motor because of the low torque and problems I’ve seen with axles spinning and ripping out the wires. My only option for the torque I wanted is a mid drive motor. Many of these E bikes with mid drive motors are several thousand dollars and I did not want to spend that much money. I bought this conversion kit for an old Kona that I’ve had for many years. I now have a mid drive 1000 W electric bike for under $1500. Buyer beware – this thing has more torque than I expected. I’ve been thrown off the bike twice so far due to the front wheel coming off the ground and my slow reaction to grab the rear brake. I’m learning that you need to start out in the lower assist mode so it doesn’t do that. Starting out in assist mode five is extremely risky especially if you are facing even slightly uphill. Overall I give this thing five stars and I’m thrilled with the performance and range. If you are even slightly mechanically inclined I highly recommend this conversion kit. You can save a ton of money and still have the feel of the bike that you are used to riding. The kit comes with a few tools but not everything you might need for your bike. Keep that in mind. I had to buy a couple of things to take my bike apart. The kit was very easy to install in just a few hours. If I had to do it again I could do it in under an hour. I weigh around 240 pounds at 6 foot one, and this bike can pull me up any hill. It has pedal assist and throttle, and it seems like pedal assist gives you 75% of the power and when you add throttle you get the remaining power. The average bike rider probably doesn’t need 1000 W mid drive conversion kit, so you really should consider what you want. I’m sure that the 500 or 750 W machine would be just fine for someone my size who is just riding around town. That extra power extends your capabilities to dirt hill climbs and more extreme to rain. Take your time and learn how to safely ride with this mid drive modification because you can get seriously injured if you are thrown off the bike backwards. Also, be prepared to improvise battery location. My frame was too tight to install inside the frame so it had to go on top. I also had to buy a top mount battery bracket because I did not want to drill holes in my frame.

I normally don't write reviews so I don't know how much information I can provide. First, I'd like to point out that the sell took the time to message me to make sure what parts I needed. The installation is simple. There are a lot of YouTube videos of how to install it. For me, the most difficult thing was to get the old bottom bracket off. I was so worried that I would strip or brake something when I was taking off the crank arms; but nothing bad happened. Good things: I can now see why my state limits the wattage to 750. This sucker is fast and has tons of torque! People doing their research like I did might find that this system can do 30mph+. I didn't think that seemed fast. Umm, what they don't point out (in my case) is using 700x35c wheels. Trust me 30mph is fast enough! Negative things about my kit: I got the 750C display thinking the navigation feature would be useful. The only way to get it working is to hook your phone up to it with Bafang's app! The real problem is that the communication protocol isn't compatible with newer phones (mine included -1⭐) . But the power meter (Amp meter) it has is a good compromise. I will update this review when I have more time or I feel like I forgot something.

I installed the Bafang 500w mid drive system on my Townie 9D. Total install time was approx. 3 hours. The motor is super quiet and very efficient. I primarily use the bike on greenways however occasionally venture out on the road. The power available makes any physical effort a selection of personal choice. This package can easily handle any climb or steep grade with ease. Again the product has exceeded my expectations.
