If you simply want a brace to provide lower back support, this should work very well. However, I made this purchase to use with the pads to cool my L4-L5 lumbar region after scheduled back surgery. Fortunately, I purchased other products, and I'm glad I did. If you're post surgery, as I was, this brace is way too stiff to accomodate the gel packs. Again, as a brace for a non-surgical procedure this is probably great. I also found the gel packs didn't last very long when inserted into the respective "pocket". When taken out of the freezer, my impression was initially very good, but for whatever reason, they didn't transfer sufficient cold to my lower back.

Ok so when I first tried this I wasn’t too happy. It didn’t feel like it was tight enough, like it was doing much. However, when I took it off I felt such a huge difference. This supports your back, waist, abdomen, you whole mid section, and it supports it extremely well. I would definitely recommend this if you suffer from back pain. The hot/cold packs work great too. Those are a must have and they are included. I’m very pleased with this so far.

Great support for after surgery

Bracepost back brace comes with two packs that can be used either hot or cold. You also have the option of using the brace with or without the ice/heat packs. I used the brace with an ice pack that I placed in the freezer for a couple of hours. If you prefer heat, you can heat the pack in the microwave to warm it up. This back brace is well constructed. The brace is comfortable and the large fits me perfectly. The back brace is made from 45% polyester, 35% Neoprene, 13% Nylon and 7% PVC. PVC is a sturdy vinyl material. The vinyl strips in the back have lumbar plates inside of them to provide back support. This is a nice addition. The belt felt more supportive because of the lumbar plates. With all of its parts, the belt felt good on. The back brace is soft to the touch. It feels really nice on. It did not irritate my skin, or feel stiff or awkward on. I would describe the material used to make this belt as being supportive, durable, flexible and sturdy. The brace is designed to offer solid support and comfort. The design is the right balance of comfort to support. The brace closes by fastening Velcro onto a baby soft wool that feels like a high-quality Merino wool. The side panels of the back brace are constructed from a nylon blend. Those side panels are very stretchy. They act similar to a rubber band when pulled, stretching and snapping back into place with ease. The side panels are flexible enough to stretch to conform to the shape of your specific body shape, which provides for a more customized personal fit. The closures contain enough Velcro material for you to be able to adjust the belt to obtain a comfortable fit for you. There are two long Velcro flaps on both sides of the brace that measure 9 inches on either side. I really like when the brace contains enough material for you to be able to really adjust the fit. After you have closed the Velcro straps, you pull on the outer compression band to achieve the right level of back support for you. These details are all well thought out and well executed. These details enhance the individualized fit, support and level of compression that you can obtain from this belt. I was mostly interested in using this back brace for cold therapy to help reduce lower back pain when I over-exert my back muscles. I wear this belt for 20 minutes with the ice packs. That is enough time to reduce inflammation and pain in my lower back. My back definitely feels better after I use this with ice. The reduction in pain is noticeable immediately. Because I also suffer from chronic back pain, I intend to incorporate both heat and ice into a regular routine, alternating between the two to help me manage my lower back pain. This is a very well constructed back brace. I have other belts, but the others do not allow me to incorporate ice and heat therapy to reduce inflammation. They also do not have the lumbar plates for additional back support. This is a very well thought out back brace that can be used to help your sore muscles recover from intense exercise, or anytime when you over-exert your back muscles, and for therapy for chronic back pain.

I have a mostly good back, but about every 1-2 years, I will do something or bend the wrong way, and suddenly, a disc will bulge randomly and pinch my sciatic nerve, and I'll be out of commission for days. I just had this happen this past November, and this brace was a life saver. After my back goes out, any small motion becomes a major shooting pain. The compression and rigidity of this brace, really helped get me feeling better sooner, because it kept things in place even when I had to bend/move. Since then, even if I feel like my back is starting to feel "weak" again (like it's going go out again), I wear this for a day or two, and it starts to feel better. Overall, I recommend this brace to anyone that has back issues and needs some support and/or relief.
