I don't like using retail skeins of yarn, because no matter how hard I try, I can't keep them from getting tangled. Plus, I recently inherited a bunch of yarn, and some of it were partial skeins and long scraps, and I wanted to roll them into balls without destroying my already destroyed wrists in the process. Enter this yarn winder. I love it! Inexpensive, easy to use, does a beautiful job of winding the yarn into easy to use/store pucks. It's nice and compact when I'm not using it, and it works so fast! I had all of my scrap yarn sorted in less than thirty minutes. I don't know how it would do with heavier yarn, but it was great for the stuff I use.

This is my first yarn winder so I don't have anything to compare it to, but I find that it works well for the price. It definitely beat trying to wind yarn by hand. It also comes with a bunch of additional odds and ends (sewing needles, stitch markers, etc.), which was nice.

I have been wanting a yarn ball winder for awhile now. When you are a knitter or a crochet-er there are so many accessories and tools you could buy that might be somewhat unnecessary or a luxury. Having to wind a skein by hand is SO time consuming but when you are on a budget you do what works. This little ball winder is the perfect thing to wind your yarn in no time. The construction is a little thin lie the metal parts and the clamp. But I would say it's comparable to other models you might find on here. There is always mixed reviews on ball winders even ones you find at your local craft store so I wanted to give this a try anyway. It sits sturdy on the table and the mechanism winds smoothly and easily. It takes a little practice but I have been able to wind up a whole skein so far into a perfect little cake. It also came with so many knitting markers which was unexpected but so useful as I am always loosing or misplacing them! Now I am stocked.

This thing works very well! I tufft with a tuffting gun. If you have ever used a gun you know that keeping the yarn in it cqn be a challenge, well this thing really makes it a lot easier. It rewinds the yarn as loose or as tight as you want it to be. Its easy to use, its very straight forward. It clamps to a table or a chair and once clamped on it stays put. Winding the yarn is simple and doesn't require much strength to do. Its actually kind of fun watching the yarn form the ball / patty. It comes with plastic knitting needles . The yarn winder its self is well made, and a great size. For the money you cant beat it . Its a great value for anyone wanting a easy way to rewind their yarn. Im very satisfied with this purchase.

The media could not be loaded. This yarn winder really threw me for a loop! Literally, I was struggling to get it to spin on the actual winder. I did want to thread itself around the bottom base-but once I figured out the tension and all I was set. I also was surprised that it was able to hold the entire roll. It’s one the thicker velvet plus yarns. Now I have accomplished getting the roll in a nice tight little spool-ready to crochet with it now. It has a metal pole that needs to be moved during winding so that it properly lines up and doesn’t do what I was! The instructions did not state this but the picture shows it on the opposite side of the turn dial. Which makes it a little more complicated to get going. After you get that part sorted and the roll started it’s pretty fast to tight roll a bunch of yarn rolls. I have a huge bind of yarn that take up so much space and I’m hoping this will help condense that down. It’s made out of plastic, so its longevity is to been seen. I think with care and keeping in a case or box it will last for years. Value wise I think for 15-20 bucks it’s worth it. It functions as it states so if you need it like me it’s a great find.

I love this yarn winder! It could not be easier to wind a cake. It's super simple to set up and feed the yarn through the arm —it is the perfect size and makes a variety of size cakes, but it's perfect for winding a skein or two of sport or worsted weight. It would definitely not work for anything super thick, but for my uses, it's great. And with the included accessories -- this is a great value for the cost. It is mostly plastic, which always makes me worry about longevity and durability, but it's what I expect now for most craft items that are on the cheaper side.

This ball winder and accessories is a good value for someone just getting into yarn crafts and needs to wind an occasional ball. It works, and for the price you get all those accessories as well, which would add up to several dollars if bought separately. That said, I would not recommend it for someone who is deep into knitting, crochet, etc and winds a lot of balls. Although it works, it is loud compared to other winders I have had. The crank is not super smooth. The parts will last a while but probably not as long as some of the pricier winders. In this case you get what you pay for. The yarn ball pictured is 50 gms.

I've been knitting and crocheting for years, but this is my first ball winder and I'm tickled with it. It's a manual winder, but it's simple to use and will make a ball in no time - definitely a ton faster than by hand! I particularly like that you can use the yarn from either inside the ball or outside the ball after it's been wound - no guesswork. It's mostly made of plastic with a metal rod or two so I don't know how long it will last., but it's worked well so far. It also came with a bunch of accessories - scissors, knitting markers, needles, etc.
