Of all the pillows and gadgets I have purchased for this defective esophagus thingy caused by acid reflux blah blah, this riser has been the most effective. I’m using it on top of my mattress with a 4 inch memory foam topper on top of it. I’ve probably tried almost every wedge pillow and gerd gadgetry known to man. Why?? To mitigate all the damage caused by surviving the 70s as a child, teenage years in the 80s, and 90s grunge. Just think — a lifetime of growing up without organic foods, adult supervision, internet, smartphones, and Alexa... not to mention an over abundance of pork fat, butter, and Aquanet. Like totally man. 🤡 Many years and bad 80s hairstyles later, I am alive. I have finally conquered acid reflex with this ramp wedge thingy. The cats are ok with it and I feel pretty well rested since I started using it. The acid in my throat has been replaced with sweet dreams of yonder years where Crisco was King, and donut delights abound. Conclusion: I highly recommend this riser elevator wedge thingy.     • No more wedge pillows for me!

It's unfortunate that many of us begin to experience acid reflux disorders as we age, both my wife and I are currently under doctor's instruction to utilize an elevated sleeping angle at night. For those who may not have tried this, be aware that sleeping with your head and upper abdominal area elevated is highly effective in reducing the occurrence and effects of GERD. This results in a much sounder, uninterrupted sleep. We have both tried elevating pillow wedges, but these wedges interfere with normal turning during the sleep cycle. These wedges also caused additional pressure in the lower lumbar region due to the bend at the hip which they typically produce. The benefits of using a wedge pillow were quickly outweighed by the discomfort they caused. Enter the mattress elevator. The 7 inch Avana mattress elevator provides a highly effective solution by utilizing a gentle slope from the head board to the foot board - and you'll continue sleeping on your own mattress! No more interference with turning at night, and no more discomfort from sleeping in a bent position caused by most pillow wedges. The amount of incline provided by the 7" Avana product is sufficient for our needs to keep reflux in check at night. Installation is very simple, but you'll need some help - particularly if your current mattress is a large size (Queen+) or a high density foam type. My wife and I were easily able to install ours by placing the first wedge (the Queen size wedge is actually two separate wedges) on its edge down by our feet while we lifted one side of the mattress. Using one arm to steady the raised mattress, we grasped the Avana mattress elevator with our other free arm and positioned it under the mattress. Repeat for the other side. Remake the bed and you're done. The 7" slope of the Avana mattress elevator is noticeable, but not unattractive. We were able to use our existing bed cover set, dust ruffle, top comforter, and throw pillows. To be truthful, it took us a few nights to get used to the mattress elevator. We don't even notice it now, and neither of us have had a reflux incident since we started using it. Highly recommended. ... show more

If this had come with its own covers I might've felt better about the cost, but it did not and the foam is very vulnerable to dirt and pet hair. It worked ok for what it was, but just didn't feel right to us. I would also like to caution anyone who is feeling like you may try this and just return it... don't do it. The return process is like pulling teeth and could end up costing as much as the product itself (over $100 just to ship it back - make sure you see the fine print that the return shipping is on you). I'm pretty bummed out by the whole experience and am now stuck with a giant foam roll (it arrives vacuum sealed and because you can't do that yourself, that's what makes returning so expensive). You have to pack it as small as you can and buy a giant box, and the bigger the box the more the shipping. If you're on the fence, go with another company that will at least pay for return shipping. When I ordered this product I honestly felt that I was probably a sucker for thinking this could help my snoring and reflux problems. For 7 months I have been using an app to record my snoring. Each night the app made a graph and scored it. The graph looked like a big mountain range and the scores were 50 - 130, most around 90! Plus, most nights I'd have acid back up in my throat forcing me to sit up and wait for a hour before I dare try to lay down again. With great hope, two weeks ago I put the wedges under my mattress. That first night, I didn't have to sit up because of reflux and my snore score was 8, not 80, 8. These last two weeks I have had to sit up ONLY ONCE! and my biggest snore score was 17. DO NOY BUY UNLESS YOU KNOW FOR SURE THIS IS WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR. I bought this to help with my heartburn and other ailments. It did nothing to help my acid reflux, actually hurt my hips to climb into to the bed since it was much taller (I am 5’8”), the foam stuck out from under the foot of my bed even when pushed all the way up to the top of the box string and we would always slid down during the night. So I was going to return it. Now the biggest problem is that the foam is like vacuum sealed and wrapped up from the factory. Once you get it home and open it up, it expands and would never fit back into the box it originally shipped it. So we rewrapped them the best we could and took them to the UPS store to get them(2 pieces for king size) reboxed and shipped back to Georgia (I am in California). The guy at the UPS store quoted me $294 to ship it back, not including the price of a new bigger box. Twice as much as I paid for them. Now I don’t know what to do with then.
